[00:01:00] Speaker B: Welcome back, everybody. This is the Camera Life podcast. It' mentioned at the top of the show.
It's a random photographer show. It's the first of December and this is episode 138. You know what, Justin? I was looking at our numbers today because I was in the, you know, the back end of YouTubeness and we're very close to 2000 subs.
[00:01:22] Speaker A: We are.
[00:01:22] Speaker B: We're thinking I was going to push us over that line. I think we will hit there before Christmas.
[00:01:28] Speaker A: I think if we just keep the same strategy we've been using, which is begging.
[00:01:33] Speaker B: Please subscribe. If you're new to the show, make sure you give us a like. It helps out. It lets YouTube know that we're worth sharing and subscribe. It costs you nothing, quite literally. Yeah, just hit the. Hit the subscribe, then hit the bell icon so you get notified in your time zone and all of that sort of stuff.
[00:01:51] Speaker A: We'll surely do some sort of giveaway when we hit 2,000 subscribers. I don't know what it'll be, but it will do something for sure.
[00:01:57] Speaker B: Yeah, that sounds good.
[00:02:00] Speaker A: Maybe you can give something away. Have you got anything?
[00:02:03] Speaker B: Just time. Plenty of time.
[00:02:05] Speaker A: So when we hit 2,000 subscribers, you can get a day of Greg's time.
[00:02:11] Speaker B: Yeah. Come to Melbourne. Justin will pay for the flights and I'll take you on a street walk.
Hey, that's. Actually, we didn't rehearse that bit. No, actually we don't rehearse any of this.
Let's say good evening to some people.
[00:02:26] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. Who's in the chat? It's going crazy.
Dennis Smith says unbox this.
Is that a sexual joke? Dennis?
Who else have we got?
[00:02:37] Speaker B: We'll take it. We'll take it if it is.
[00:02:38] Speaker A: Oh, everyone's names are all messed up. John Pickett.
Philip Johnson is here.
Dennis says it feels like I'm sitting here editing the same bloody video I was last week. I hope not.
[00:02:53] Speaker B: Are you Groundhog Day?
[00:02:56] Speaker A: Jen? I wondered whether the.
I wondered whether the thumbnail of this episode would. Would get some people So I am indeed going to be potentially selling the R3 if the R6 Mark III can handle the task. So stay tuned for the testing. Yeah, yeah. I mean, the R3 is a beast. So it's gonna.
[00:03:17] Speaker B: I like how you dip your toes into the clickbait a little. I like how you lean into that. But you're respectful. You're not.
[00:03:23] Speaker A: Well, what's funny is not Mr.
[00:03:25] Speaker B: Beast Quality.
[00:03:26] Speaker A: Well, it's factual. It's not clickbait. If it's. I'm really trying. I'm. One of them's got not. You know, I'm not keeping all three cameras. One of them's going. So I'm either gonna sell the one I just bought or I'm gonna sell the one that's a couple years old and that's the R3, so. Well, you know who else is here? Felicity Johnson. Hello from Gornong. Hello. You're not far away. We could probably almost. I could just walk out the front and wave to you. Felicity.
David.
[00:03:50] Speaker B: She's been putting up some banging images this week.
[00:03:53] Speaker A: Oh, yes. Oh, princess.
[00:03:55] Speaker B: Stunning work.
Yeah, well, she was selling a prince at a market. We'll try chatting about that on socials today.
But she's also been doing a lot of macro in her garden. She's got a beautiful garden. And so she's been out in the garden doing macro photography. Just absolutely phenomenal photography. Love your work, Felicity.
Awesome. Sorry.
[00:04:14] Speaker A: Awesome. Well done, Felicity. Maybe she send some in. I can't see any. There's a few more coming. Okay, so we should do that just quickly. So at the end of the show. Every Monday night show, we've been doing the youe Images section where we check out some images of yours or ours, whatever.
Some people have already sent some in. There's some more rolling in right now. So I'll have to do some admin during the show.
If you're watching live in the next 15, 20 minutes, I'll give you. Send it in. Justinuckystraps.com try and trim it down to 1, 2, 3 images, maybe 5 if they're a set or something. Try and keep it short and we'll pull them up on tonight's show. If you listen to this later, send them in for next week. Justinuckystraps.com Nice.
Who else is here? Lisa Leach, of course.
John Pickett went to the SMCC photo Walk at Flagstaff Gardens yesterday.
[00:05:07] Speaker B: Greg.
[00:05:08] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:05:09] Speaker B: He's ignoring you on purpose. He's just purely talking to me.
McC. So the Melbourne Camera Club.
[00:05:15] Speaker A: Fancy.
[00:05:15] Speaker B: Was that the end of year event, John. Or is there. Is there something else planned?
Yeah, let us know.
[00:05:24] Speaker A: Lots of.
[00:05:24] Speaker B: Lots of love for the street walk option.
[00:05:27] Speaker A: Well, we might have to make that a thing.
[00:05:30] Speaker B: We might.
I'm up for it.
[00:05:32] Speaker A: Christmas street walk or something.
You could wear a Santa outfit.
[00:05:36] Speaker B: No, that won't be happening.
[00:05:38] Speaker A: Okay.
Christine Hot Rod Custom Images is here.
[00:05:42] Speaker B: Hey, Christine.
[00:05:43] Speaker A: Sure it's Christine. I'm so mixed up. I'm sure it is. It is. Because I was looking at some of your hot rod custom images, Bruce. Ah, it's Monday. It is Monday.
Rick Nelson. Lucinda is editing and Dennis wants a day of Greek.
[00:06:01] Speaker B: Yeah, you can have me for a day.
[00:06:04] Speaker A: Oh, Scott Tintype man is here. What's up?
[00:06:06] Speaker B: Hey.
Looking at some of your work in the beef up groupies page.
[00:06:15] Speaker A: There's been quite a few popping up.
[00:06:16] Speaker B: Yeah, it's been great. Really interesting stuff.
[00:06:20] Speaker A: David Skinner. I'd love to see a street walk in Melbourne next year. Greg. Shep. Lunch. Yeah. Come down from Shep. Yeah, we'd have to make it a bit of a thing.
Do that. Pull everyone from.
[00:06:29] Speaker B: I'm currently exploring some options for street walks in Melbourne and. Yeah.
Stay tuned.
[00:06:36] Speaker A: Great idea.
[00:06:37] Speaker B: Yeah, why not?
[00:06:38] Speaker A: Idea.
[00:06:38] Speaker B: You've got Disney House.
Something. I love doing something like it's. Yeah.
I don't fall over, but we'll get to that later.
[00:06:48] Speaker A: You did. You don't talk about now. Great. Great.
[00:06:50] Speaker B: People went on the street work.
[00:06:51] Speaker A: Okay, we'll talk about it later.
[00:06:52] Speaker B: Yeah, we'll talk about later. Yeah.
[00:06:54] Speaker A: Hello. Tim Siamas. Good to see you.
[00:06:56] Speaker B: Hey, Tim.
[00:06:58] Speaker A: Should we get.
[00:06:58] Speaker B: Yes, it's Christine Hot Rod Custom Images is different. I don't know.
[00:07:03] Speaker A: I don't know why. I don't know why. Every time I second guess myself, but I did. I was looking at your images today.
[00:07:09] Speaker B: Oh. Neil Leach just left a message.
Seriously? Oh, I swore within the first five minutes. Seven minutes. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
[00:07:18] Speaker A: Later.
[00:07:21] Speaker B: Lisa was lucky to be. I'll do it. She rolled the Ford Ranger. Yes. On the way back from Mount Beauty workshop with Charlie Brown. Did you.
[00:07:29] Speaker A: What?
[00:07:29] Speaker B: Oh my gosh. Are you okay? Are you okay, you crazy cat?
[00:07:33] Speaker A: Oh my gosh.
[00:07:35] Speaker B: You've rolled the car.
Is the camera gear okay?
More importantly, is the camera.
[00:07:41] Speaker A: Is the camera gear okay? Well, I'm. I'm glad Lisa's okay. That's gnarly. There's some wild roads depending on which direction you're coming back from Beauty, but if you were going back towards Bright, that's like over the gap. That's. That's yuck.
[00:07:55] Speaker B: Yes. And given that it's, you know, still winter here in Victoria, so for some reason on 1st of December, maybe there's some ice on the road. Who knows?
[00:08:03] Speaker A: Yeah, maybe. Neil says cars dead.
[00:08:06] Speaker B: That's okay. That's why we have insurance.
[00:08:08] Speaker A: Yeah, exactly. Car doesn't matter.
[00:08:09] Speaker B: Lisa is good. That's all that matters. And the camera gear that. Please let us know. The camera gear is okay.
We love you, Lisa. We're sending you lots of love. Hope you. Hope you're okay.
[00:08:19] Speaker A: Yes, yes, most definitely.
[00:08:21] Speaker B: Yeah, that's yuck.
[00:08:23] Speaker A: Okay. That is yuck. Let's move. Let's, let's, let's move along. Send us a photo of the car. No, don't do that.
Camera. Geese behind. Very sore. Oh, 100 K's in the.
[00:08:38] Speaker B: Wow. Oh, gosh. Rest up.
[00:08:41] Speaker A: Yeah, I bet everyone. Oh, my God.
[00:08:42] Speaker B: Here at the camera life is sending you our love.
[00:08:45] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm sure. Yes, we certainly are. Rest up.
Dang.
[00:08:50] Speaker B: Silly goose.
[00:08:51] Speaker A: Yeah, silly goose.
[00:08:53] Speaker B: All right, where are we up to?
[00:08:55] Speaker A: We're changing the first segment. It was just comments. We're now calling it Clips and comments. Should we move straight into that?
[00:09:01] Speaker B: Yeah, let's do clips and comments.
[00:09:06] Speaker A: Here we go. So it's hard to know based on the title.
It's pretty weird. But instead of just comments, we're also going to have a look at some clips.
[00:09:15] Speaker B: Yeah, we thought we'd mix it up a little.
[00:09:17] Speaker A: Greg's been on social media finding clips and I haven't seen him yet. So we're just going to see what they are. And the first one, Well, I have seen this one.
[00:09:26] Speaker B: Yeah, I sent this one to the whole Lucky Straps Camera Life team when I. When this popped up. And you'll see why, other than the fact that we love Den and obviously anything that Dennis has to say is should be documented into some sort of book. Like a special. I don't know, we could call it like a photographer's box bible or something. I don't know. Anyway, roll the tape.
[00:09:45] Speaker A: Let's. Let's see. Let me know if you can hear this or if you can't hear this.
[00:09:48] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. It's this just complete and utter joy that exists inside of me when I light paint. I've held workshops for thousands of people in some of the most amazing locations. And there is this energy that I see come from people when I watch them have the joy of making light painting images. There is some power that exists in that moment. All I have ever wanted is for every single person that has the Ability to put a camera on a trip or the ground and go out and have a go at light painting. I just want everyone to feel that joy. You don't need a fancy camera, you don't need fancy gear. But the more information that I can share and give out about all the techniques that I do, the more chance there is people will go out and feel that joy that I feel.
[00:10:34] Speaker A: That's right. You don't need a fancy camera, you don't need fancy gear. You just need a black on black lucky straps T shirt to make you look amazing and not reflect anything in the dark.
[00:10:44] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. But that was pretty cool clip.
[00:10:47] Speaker A: Like what a great clip.
[00:10:48] Speaker B: Aside from the wisdom.
Yes. He's representing. We don't pay influences, Bruce. Thank you. Otherwise you would have a check.
We have no money.
Yeah, that's.
[00:11:00] Speaker A: That's from the new get the Shot podcast which Tamron are putting out, which is pretty cool. So we're seeing Tamron putting out a high production value podcast and Sony Australia have one called something.
You find it if you go to Sony Australia's YouTube channel. Something.
[00:11:18] Speaker B: Sony's high production values.
[00:11:20] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:11:20] Speaker B: That's a little soulless.
[00:11:23] Speaker A: Hey, they're trying. They're doing it.
[00:11:27] Speaker B: I'll reach out and see if they need any guidance.
[00:11:29] Speaker A: They, they seem to be alternating like a Sony.
Sony product based show and then an interview each week, which I think is a good way to do it. In the frame. That's it. Bruce got in the frame and. Yeah, so. So that's a good one to check out as well. And so that's Sony Australia. Sorry, not Sony Worldwide. And it's. And this is Tamron Australia, I assume because it's Tamron Australian people.
[00:11:51] Speaker B: So Glenn's been on it recently too. He was on it a couple of weeks back.
So.
[00:11:55] Speaker A: Love seeing these companies putting some money behind, putting content out, putting photographers out and doing the high production value stuff and leaving the low production value things to us. Yeah.
[00:12:08] Speaker B: Low hanging fruit.
[00:12:09] Speaker A: That's right.
[00:12:10] Speaker B: That's where the money is, apparently.
[00:12:12] Speaker A: Stay away from our live streams, stay away from companies.
[00:12:17] Speaker B: We'll become monkeys and throw poo at you.
[00:12:19] Speaker A: That's right.
Next clip.
What Dennis said. That's the best interview I've ever been involved with. Very real. Thanks.
[00:12:29] Speaker B: What about our interview?
[00:12:31] Speaker A: Surely, surely he doesn't mean such things.
[00:12:33] Speaker B: Yeah, no. He's clearly been drinking or he's tired or something.
[00:12:37] Speaker A: Must be. Must be mistaken out with his balls.
[00:12:40] Speaker B: Of light late at night. So.
[00:12:45] Speaker A: All right, next clip.
Let's see if this one works.
[00:12:48] Speaker B: This is a bit of a longer one.
[00:12:50] Speaker C: Told you that. This box right here removes all the speed and convenience the instant photography offers.
Trades it for the ability to take some really nice, high quality photos that the format normally is known for. Doesn't sound so bad, does it?
One thing you'll almost always find on instant cameras is a very plastic lens.
This lens, however, is very glass and you have full aperture control and full shutter control. This is a shim that will make sure that the film plane is exactly where we want it. When we, we're focusing under here, we can check our composition. I think the lighting is just a tad bit boring, so I'm gonna do something about that real quick.
As far as metering goes, we're gonna meter this at 800 ISO and we're gonna shoot it at f8. So that's gonna give us about 1/30 of a second.
Once installed on the back of the camera, we can pull, pull the dark slide out. Now we can go ahead and release the shutter photo has now been exposed.
We've got a little eject button right here. So we're going to press that.
It's going to kick our photo out.
Now we just got to wait for it to develop.
And here is the final results.
What do you guys think? Do you think low quality instant film is what makes it so charming? Or do you think we're missing out on a little bit of its own potential by using such cheap cameras?
Something to think about.
[00:14:20] Speaker A: What if I told you it's pretty cool?
[00:14:23] Speaker B: That's. That's pretty cool.
It's made by lomography.
[00:14:28] Speaker A: Oh, they put the, they put it out, did they? Yeah, it's called the, the back you're talking about.
[00:14:33] Speaker B: Oh yeah, yeah, the back bit. Not the whole camera, not, not the 100 year old lens? No, the lomography didn't make that lomograph lock.
[00:14:44] Speaker A: Interesting.
[00:14:45] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:14:45] Speaker A: Is it new?
[00:14:47] Speaker B: I don't know. I, I didn't delve into it too much because I just thought we'd just discuss it. Either way, it's, it's really cool. It's a clever way to, you know, because it got me thinking about what Dennis did at BFOP with the, the light painting portraits that he smashed out a record for.
And it got me thinking about, well, there's other applications for it. And I came across this clip and I was really excited to find it and I thought we'd share it tonight because it's, I think it's pretty cool.
And I thought Lucinda might be interested because she she loves the instant stuff and I know she loves instant cameras, but this is a way potentially to turn other cameras into an instant film camera.
Yeah.
[00:15:26] Speaker A: So 4x5 instant back for 237 Australian dollars.
[00:15:33] Speaker B: That's reasonable.
[00:15:36] Speaker A: Compatible with all graph lock equipped 4x5 cameras.
Shoot affordable Fujifilm Instax wide film affordable relative. Relatively.
[00:15:52] Speaker B: Okay, that's cool.
How much is a pack of Instax wide these days? Like 30 bucks or something, isn't it?
[00:16:02] Speaker A: Yeah, 10 slides cheaper than shooting medium format.
[00:16:06] Speaker B: But yeah, still, I went to buy. I went to JB the other day. Jb, hi Fi here in Australia, for those of you not in Australia, it's like a. It's like America's Walmart, basically.
No, it's not like Walmart, it's more.
Anyway, it doesn't matter. I went to JB and I was. Because I was going to buy a disposable film camera because we've been talking about this sort of stuff a lot recently and it was 50 bucks for 27 exposure with a flash.
Yeah, like 48 something and then processing and all of that. And it's like all of a sudden it's not a fun little quick way to go out and shoot film. It's almost cheaper to just go and buy one of those sort of non disposable plastic film cameras that you can get from the same stores and just buy a couple of rolls of film or buy them in bulk and you know, spread that cost out because that's just crazy.
[00:16:57] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, it's pretty wild.
Wild, wild. Dennis would say. Okay, final clip. Yep, final clip.
Get this back up. There we go. What do we got for me here? Camera shopping, 1985. That's when I was.
[00:17:16] Speaker B: Oh my God, you're such a baby.
[00:17:18] Speaker A: This is the year of my birth.
[00:17:19] Speaker B: What was that? I was 12.
[00:17:21] Speaker A: Let's see what it's like.
[00:17:23] Speaker D: Giving may be the next holiday after Halloween, but in terms of gifts and shopping, it's time to start thinking Christmas. Towards that end, we've come to look at a continuously popular gift idea, a camera. Cameras are a better deal than ever these days. Still, many folks feel like they know nothing.
[00:17:39] Speaker B: I don't know anything about them.
[00:17:41] Speaker D: If you're one of those type camera shoppers, there's more good news. Competition among camera makers has kept prices low and features high on simple 35 millimeter cameras, many selling in the 100 to $120 range. Auto Wind, auto focus, auto exposure, auto flash.
[00:17:57] Speaker C: The camera does much more for you. It's literally to the point where all.
[00:18:00] Speaker A: You'Re going to have to do is.
[00:18:01] Speaker C: Put film and batteries in them and they'll do everything else for you, including focus. You just push one button and the.
[00:18:05] Speaker A: Camera does it all.
[00:18:06] Speaker D: Some have more than just that one button bump. The price range up to about $200 and you get even more features.
[00:18:14] Speaker C: Show you that you have film in it.
[00:18:15] Speaker A: Tell you the exposure number that you're on, the speed of the film that.
[00:18:18] Speaker C: You'Re using, how many exposures are on.
[00:18:19] Speaker A: That roll of film and if the film is advancing through the camera properly.
[00:18:23] Speaker D: The nice thing about the auto focus do everything cameras is that they use 35 millimeter film. And short of interchangeable lenses, the cameras do most everything else that the big guys do.
[00:18:33] Speaker C: The picture quality is going to be much, much better. They will have the capability to do enlargements with the pictures if they like them. 8x10, 11x14 just in general, there's a much more variety of film that can be used.
[00:18:44] Speaker D: Better quality pictures and they still don't.
[00:18:46] Speaker B: Cost much and they don't cost that much.
[00:18:48] Speaker D: Now if you want to spend a little more and get a more traditional 35mm camera, you'll find there too. Some of the do everything features from the smaller cameras are starting to show up. Example, this Nikon with built in motor Drive runs about $250.
But the 35 that's taken the market by storm is this Minolta. Maximum price about 320 to $330. It's the first 35 millimeter single lens reflex camera with automatic focus.
[00:19:13] Speaker A: Green light.
They literally locked themselves in a room.
[00:19:17] Speaker C: And said let's come up with something new. And they did. And it is a very good camera.
[00:19:21] Speaker D: Thanksgiving may be the next holiday.
[00:19:23] Speaker A: I love that so much.
[00:19:24] Speaker B: Isn't that cool?
[00:19:27] Speaker A: Is that. Was that one of an early advertorial? They might say, you know, do you think someone paid to have that. That thing featured on the news?
[00:19:36] Speaker B: Maybe. Yeah. Maybe it was the store or something. But I mean we didn't see the end of it. But yeah, I don't know whether that was the thing back then, but really cool. Like really. And, and the, the thing that I always love about watching old stuff like that is the voiceovers.
[00:19:49] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:19:50] Speaker B: And the way that language is used and, and the way that you know, tone and pitch are used to promote product or talk about something. It's really interesting.
[00:19:57] Speaker A: It's so good.
Yeah. Everyone wants. Everyone would I buy them in halter. Everyone wants all the cameras in that they're like, oh, I'd have that. Yeah.
[00:20:07] Speaker B: Yeah.
But pretty crazy.
[00:20:09] Speaker A: It's so great.
[00:20:11] Speaker B: What was that? So that was 40 years ago.
[00:20:12] Speaker A: Yeah.
Holy shit. Don't say that.
[00:20:16] Speaker B: I'm old. You're old, Justin.
[00:20:18] Speaker A: I am old.
[00:20:20] Speaker B: You're not Philip Johnson old, but you're old.
No offense, Philip.
[00:20:27] Speaker A: I'm not Greg Chromie old.
[00:20:28] Speaker B: No, you're not. No, my hearing's going and I had a fall, but we'll get to that later.
[00:20:34] Speaker A: Your hearing's going?
[00:20:35] Speaker B: It is really fast.
[00:20:37] Speaker A: Really? Yeah. Oh, that's not good.
[00:20:40] Speaker B: Yeah, all the family, they all pick on me and make jokes that, you know, that I didn't hear.
[00:20:45] Speaker A: You can't hear.
[00:20:46] Speaker B: Yeah, I can't hear. I can't hear the jokes. So that's all right. I'm not mine.
Sensibilities aren't hurt.
Should we talk about.
There wasn't a lot of comments when I went through them.
[00:20:59] Speaker A: In the past week. No, in the past week.
[00:21:02] Speaker B: I went back a little bit, but I think we'd already covered some of them.
[00:21:05] Speaker A: Yeah, I think the only one here. I won't even pull it up.
There wasn't much going on in the past week. Actually, there's a couple.
One on Louise Sedgman's Interview from episode 126 A few weeks ago, the art of equine photography. But we talked about so much more at Inage Photography. Said, great interview with Louise. I'm going to have her on my podcast next week, so I'm excited to hear more from her. Oh, cool. I'll have to check that out.
[00:21:32] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:21:32] Speaker A: A new podcast.
[00:21:34] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:21:35] Speaker A: Maybe it's not new. New to me. New to me podcast.
[00:21:37] Speaker B: No, I had a look at it and I didn't get a chance to watch any episodes, but I checked out some socials and stuff and, yeah, some interesting stuff. New but new but awesome.
[00:21:47] Speaker A: Well, we'll keep an eye on that. Maybe we'll have to have her on and just, you know, do a little podcast transfer.
[00:21:51] Speaker B: Share the love.
[00:21:53] Speaker A: And then on Thursday's episode with the one and only VICKI BELL, Episode 137@ Julie Pal photo says, such a fab episode, guys. Lovely to meet Vicky, too.
Yeah, that was a great episode. Super fun.
She is.
[00:22:11] Speaker B: Hey, look at this. Sorry, Philip Johnson.
I keep getting old lucky strap videos and Justin's so young. He had pimples.
[00:22:21] Speaker A: I love that.
[00:22:22] Speaker B: That is gold, Philip.
That is gold. He still gets them. Don't worry, we all do.
I've got one under my chin that's really annoying. Keep Scratching. Anyway, we move on.
[00:22:36] Speaker A: Yeah, I am. I was young and now I'm old.
Okay, so that's that. Should we move on to the news?
[00:22:44] Speaker B: Let's move to news and rumors and we'll start off with an event. But first, the jingle.
[00:22:49] Speaker A: That jingle.
[00:22:53] Speaker B: You just. The timing is just everything here.
Anyway, before we move on to the next segment because we are shaking things up a little bit, we kind of trying to find a new groove, maybe a new. Just keep things interesting for everyone. So let us know what your thoughts are in the comments about anything new you see tonight or if you're new to the channel, let us know. Drop a comment because we will read your comment out live in the following week. Maybe.
[00:23:16] Speaker A: No, we probably.
[00:23:17] Speaker B: Unless you're a jerk, you're going to be a jerk.
[00:23:19] Speaker A: Actually, no, if you're a jerk, we'll definitely read it out.
[00:23:21] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. We'll show everyone your website, your Instagram and everything about you. We'll do the whole bit. That's what I get paid the big bucks for, to hunt down the noobs.
All right, let's first talk about Jason Lau's event.
So Jason Lau is a longtime friend of the show. He's been on a couple of times now.
He was even on one of our first panels, which is lovely.
But Jason's been doing a bit of work with Rico GR Australia. So he was up in Brisbane about a month ago now, I reckon, for the opening of the brand new GR space in Brisbane, Australia, which was really random and really odd. They chose Brisbane.
[00:23:59] Speaker A: He met real podcasters up there, the Petapixel guys.
[00:24:02] Speaker B: Just the one, just Chris Nichols and the producer or two. Sorry, that's.
[00:24:06] Speaker A: Well, yeah, they both do the podcast.
[00:24:08] Speaker B: Yeah, they do, yeah. But Jordan Drake wasn't there, but they did do a podcast from Australia, I think a couple and Jordan kind of beamed in because the power of the Internet.
But yeah, so he's been, he's been doing some great work. So there's another event coming up. Do you want to show the little, the little bit there? Have you got that there on the link, Justin?
[00:24:27] Speaker A: I, I don't have it ready, but I can get to it if it's.
[00:24:30] Speaker B: Well, I'll, I'll still.
[00:24:31] Speaker A: It's mission critical.
[00:24:32] Speaker B: Yeah, it's mission critical. I know you're working on photos, but.
[00:24:35] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm just trying to download some photos. Where is it? Where is it? Where is it? Here we go.
[00:24:39] Speaker B: Anyway, so this coming Thursday evening, 4th of December, I think it's at like 6 or 6:30 at the Alpaca Concept Store at Docklands in Melbourne. Jason's going to be there with the crew from Alpaca because they're doing a collaboration with Rico, GR Australia and CR Kennedy. And it was CR Kennedy who I think brought out the Pedapixel guys because they did a podcast from CR Kennedy Studios.
But yeah, so Jason, I had a chat to him yesterday.
He's pretty keen, he's pretty excited. I'm gonna head along. So if anyone's in the hood and wants to drop by and show your support for a fellow creative and. And plus you get to check out the new Ricoh GR4, assuming they've managed to get some in the country.
[00:25:25] Speaker A: Is that what. So that is the plan for it? It's.
[00:25:27] Speaker B: Sorry, yes, that's what it's for. It's to. It's to promote the Collab between Rico GR, the new GR4 and some compact carry options from Alpaca who make Australian company. Australian owned company run by a couple of guys here in Melbourne.
And yeah, it's, it's pretty cool.
We need more events like this. We need more. Yeah, definitely more collabs like this.
[00:25:53] Speaker A: I think it's pretty cool that they're running, yeah, running an event about it, not just throwing a collab out like. Because lots of which is still fine. Like people do collaborations, different companies over time and stuff like that. But it's nice to launch it in a physical space and yeah, make it a bit of an event and if they've got that GR4 there, then that's even better.
[00:26:12] Speaker B: Yeah, I'd like to have a crack at it.
I'd like to just play around. I never had a chance to shoot with one properly. Not that I'll get to at the event, but I'll at least get to check it out and maybe make some connections and. And you know, hopefully get an opportunity to get my hands on one.
But this is this.
A couple of months ago now, Charlie Blevins, our friend from Fujifilm Australia, came down and he also did a collaboration with Alpaca because they're an Aussie brand and, and I think, wasn't it Alpaca that did those totes for the Fujifilm Creator Summit in Sydney?
The first like 150 people got a. A show bag with a. An alpaca show bag that had an alpaca tote which was.
[00:26:51] Speaker A: I reckon it was them. Yeah.
[00:26:53] Speaker B: Yeah.
So, yeah, they're doing great work, which is cool. Good on them. Support local.
[00:27:00] Speaker A: It's excellent. Support local. If I Could get down there. I would, but I don't know if I can. We'll see.
[00:27:04] Speaker B: Yep. Oh, let me know, we'll go for dinner.
Can you bring the credit card?
[00:27:12] Speaker A: It's maxed out.
[00:27:13] Speaker B: I've got a dollar thirty six on my credit card at the moment.
Out of control.
[00:27:19] Speaker A: I've got less than that.
[00:27:21] Speaker B: Yeah, I accidentally found the Nissi filters Australia website, Black Friday sale and did a little bit of damage even though I've only got teeny weeny lenses.
[00:27:30] Speaker A: What did you buy?
[00:27:31] Speaker B: I got a couple of new, just UV clear protection filters because I drop one on every lens or at least I thought I did, but my macro, I realized my macro lens doesn't have one and I've been shoving that thing into all sorts of, you know, holes and things.
Anyway, moving along.
And I also bought a, a black mist filter because I want to try and do some nighttime photography in the city of Melbourne at night.
Fancy that. And because black mist is really good at kind of accentuating lighting effects and it turns it into like this, like it's a misty evening. And all of the lighting effects, it's almost like there's particles forming around any light source that you photograph and it kind of just blooms the light a little bit, softens it, but blooms it out into the frame. So I thought I'd have a crack at those.
Yeah. So I mean I didn't. It was an exorbitant amount of money, but it was enough.
[00:28:29] Speaker A: It adds up. Those filters add up quick. It's very like, yeah, I'm the same. If you go there for a couple of protection filters and, and then, you know, I might need a new VND or something for a certain size lens. And then you're like, hang on this 5, 500 shopping cart. What? When did this happen? Yeah, I come here for 110 filter.
[00:28:48] Speaker B: I know. And then all of a sudden they say, I'll buy two. And you get this free case. And mine comes with a case because I bought, I think I bought the kit. Yeah, I bought a kit. It comes with like a quarter and an eighth black mist filter for my Fujifilm 23 millimeter F2, which I'll use at night, which is cool.
But it comes with a case to hold the filters, which I, I appreciate, I think that's really important.
But yeah, and like Bruce, he said, you know, oh, sorry, I won't touch anything. I'm stepping away from the button.
[00:29:21] Speaker A: Bruce says, nissia dollars. But also very good. They are very good. And I hear that they're Also very generous when it comes to podcast sponsorship, so.
[00:29:30] Speaker B: Yeah, I have heard that too. But 20 off is a pretty decent, like store wide.
That was a pretty good sale, especially for a brand like that. Like, you know, because, you know, I was only buying a couple hundred bucks worth. But if you're buying like a thousand dollar filter kit, 200 bucks means you can buy more filters.
[00:29:46] Speaker A: You can buy, you know.
[00:29:49] Speaker B: Well, no, it's true. You could buy, you could buy that. What is it called? That Jet. Jet Mag pack.
[00:29:53] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:29:53] Speaker B: So you know the landscape and. Yeah, everything.
[00:29:56] Speaker A: Right.
[00:29:56] Speaker B: Yeah.
So. And I let Jim know because Jim was looking for some new ND filters, I think. So I hope you got those.
But yeah, that was.
But I have to say, I don't know about all of you guys. Let me know in the comments. But the amount of sales emails for Black Friday.
Yeah, like some brands I was getting two emails a day and a text message.
[00:30:20] Speaker A: Yeah, we didn't end up doing a Black Friday sale.
[00:30:24] Speaker B: No, but you had your family sale.
[00:30:26] Speaker A: We did the family sale beforehand. But you know, most companies will usually do that stuff. They'll just drag it all the way through, then they'll do Black Friday, then they'll do Cyber Monday, then they'll do like the start of December and then they'll do, you know, and they just keep dragging. I was like, I don't really want to be part of this. I sent one out, an email out this morning for Cyber Monday. Just one?
[00:30:46] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:30:47] Speaker A: So, yeah, that was the first time people had heard from us really, in over a week.
Just because it is, it's pretty, it's pretty hectic out there in the inboxes.
[00:30:56] Speaker B: It's crazy. And you know, I was getting emails from brands that I hadn't bought for in like over 12 months. And the. My worst offender was Casio Australia. I love a good Casio watch.
Bit of a G shock, man. But I was getting two emails a day from them and a text message every day for the last two weeks.
[00:31:18] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:31:19] Speaker B: And I didn't unsubscribe because I like their stuff and I like being notified about new products. So I didn't want to miss out. It's. It's funny, isn't it? You're kind of stuck. It's like, oh, I hate all these emails. But gosh, if they send me something.
[00:31:29] Speaker A: That I really want, I'll be glad.
[00:31:30] Speaker B: For that email, you know.
[00:31:33] Speaker A: Anyway, it's, that's the thing. You sort of got to take the bad with the good to get what you want.
You Want, you know, you've got it. And I. There was some stuff I wanted, you know, over Black Friday, so I signed up to the email lists beforehand because I was like, I want to. If there's deals going, I'm going to buy the stuff when it's cheap.
[00:31:50] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:31:50] Speaker A: And that's what I did.
[00:31:51] Speaker B: Sense that's a good time to buy.
[00:31:53] Speaker A: I got a new changing towel.
[00:31:55] Speaker B: A changing towel? What's a. Is that like the one that someone holds up when you're on the beach? You need to get changed without anyone seeing your bits?
[00:32:01] Speaker A: No, it's like a hooded towel with armholes.
[00:32:05] Speaker B: Oh, like. Yeah, we talked about this the other day.
[00:32:07] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. So I got one.
[00:32:09] Speaker B: That's what. My kids used to actually wear them at the local pool. They go to the pool, you drop on their. Their hooded towel and off they'd run.
[00:32:17] Speaker A: Off they run. That'll be me soon.
[00:32:18] Speaker B: You learn to put on yours for you. You stand there all wet and drippy.
[00:32:25] Speaker A: You know, Dries my head. Nice.
Gosh, I've got so many photos to put into these fonts.
[00:32:31] Speaker B: I'm going to look at some comments because people are dropping some gold.
What do we. What have we got to say? Minotas are worth about the same these days. Very, very clever web promotions.
We talked about Justin's pimples. We won't go over that again.
Lucinda wants to know how you have not unboxed your. Your new kit yet.
[00:32:56] Speaker A: Well, I was gonna write on this box some sort of paraphrased fight club quote, like I am Justin's screaming self control because this has been sitting here.
[00:33:11] Speaker B: It's been here for days.
[00:33:12] Speaker A: Yeah, since Friday got delivered. Look, it's not even. Nothing. Not even.
[00:33:19] Speaker B: And when you showed it, to be fair, when you showed it to me on Friday, it was likewise sealed. So I'm proud of you guys.
[00:33:24] Speaker A: Sealed?
[00:33:25] Speaker B: Yeah. You may still be running around a kid's little beach towel, but you have some self control.
[00:33:30] Speaker A: Because I wanted to share it with all of you, that's why. Yeah, otherwise I absolutely would have unboxed.
[00:33:35] Speaker B: I have that dilemma every time I get a. Like if, you know, a box arrived with camera gear or whatever, Lucinda goes on to say, oh, yes, I love my Black Mist. Let me know what you guys use Black Mist filters for because Bruce has said the same.
He uses them all the time, including Black Mist. Talk about Nissi in general.
Felicity1 and. Oh, that's right, the Felicity won the Nissi Jet Mag Kit. B flop. That was a.
[00:34:01] Speaker A: Yes. That's a good Win.
[00:34:02] Speaker B: Bloody good price.
[00:34:03] Speaker A: 700 worth, probably.
[00:34:04] Speaker B: Yeah. Nice one. Felicity says, says Bruce and Dennis has said Black Friday is insert rant about damage to small business. Yeah, it's a fair call.
[00:34:13] Speaker A: Yeah. That is not. Not an ideal time to be a small business. That is for sure.
[00:34:17] Speaker B: And David Leporati wants to know if I'm made of money.
No, I did not buy the NISSI macro focusing rail, as much as it is tempting to upgrade my macro kit. But to be fair, I haven't been out for a couple of weeks. I've been loving street photography, although I did have a fall and we will get to that later.
[00:34:33] Speaker A: Yes, we need to hear about this.
[00:34:35] Speaker B: We do need to hear about the fall.
[00:34:36] Speaker A: Saved by a Sony man.
[00:34:38] Speaker B: I was saved by a Sony shooter, of all people. Can you imagine how embarrassed I was to have a Sony shooter lift me off the ground?
Strong too. Manly hands.
Yeah.
Got to carry all those G master lenses. So he's like. All of his little fingers have, like, biceps.
[00:34:52] Speaker A: Did he. Did he have a soul, though, or was he just technically functional?
[00:34:57] Speaker B: No, he was pretty sweet. Yeah, okay. He was really nice. Anyway, we'll get to that.
[00:35:01] Speaker A: It was more of a camera joke, but anyway.
[00:35:04] Speaker B: Yeah, I know what you're going with, but I didn't know how to respond.
[00:35:07] Speaker A: Should we get some news going?
[00:35:09] Speaker B: Let's get some news going.
[00:35:11] Speaker A: All right.
[00:35:12] Speaker B: Let's talk about Canon.
[00:35:13] Speaker A: Yeah. Let's talk about why not?
[00:35:15] Speaker B: They're the star of the week at the moment.
So the rumor is, Holy Trinity of 2.8 STM zoom lenses are on the way.
They've already released two of. That. Of that proposed rumored trinity of. Of.
[00:35:31] Speaker A: I own both of them.
[00:35:32] Speaker B: You do?
[00:35:33] Speaker A: The 28 won't focus. Come on. The 28 to 72.8 and the 16 to 28 2.8. And I use them. So the 16 to 28 is filming me right now.
So I can do this and you can see my messy office, or I can do this. Yeah, Nice and close.
And then the 28 to 70. This is like. This is. This is a gold street photography lens. You can just go right from 28 to 50 is what. Where I'll use it if I'm just wandering around.
And then if I need to. A little bit closer. Just get a little bit of reach. But that's kind of rare.
[00:36:06] Speaker B: Yeah. So I think it's cute that you think a zoom is a street photography lens, but no, you go on. You do you.
[00:36:11] Speaker A: What's that guy's name that uses a zoom lens that's John Street Photography. John street, that's right. His photos are fucking awesome.
[00:36:18] Speaker B: He's misguided. He's misguided also.
[00:36:20] Speaker A: How about that?
[00:36:21] Speaker B: Love you, John. He's just got back from Japan. He just spent like a week or something in Tokyo shooting street. Doing nothing else but shooting street.
[00:36:29] Speaker A: We should find out if he took a zoom lens over there or not or if he's not a real street photographer.
[00:36:34] Speaker B: Challenging him on that. Challenge him on that.
[00:36:38] Speaker A: Anyway, so this holy trinity, are they still talking? Because we talked about this rumor a while ago. Basically something that's going to be a 70 to 200 ish.
[00:36:46] Speaker B: But there was rumor that it might size.
[00:36:48] Speaker A: Yeah. Maybe because these are smaller. You know, instead of being a 24 to 70, it's a 28 to 70. Instead of being a 15 to 35, it's a 16 to 28. And I wonder whether they'll do something like that to.
[00:37:01] Speaker B: What do you think it would be?
[00:37:03] Speaker A: Well, I would, I feel like something like an 85 to 150 or 180 or whatever would be fine. But based on the fact that this goes 16 to 28, 28 to 70, I'd be very surprised if they leave a gap. It'll be 70 to something, but not 200, surely. No, I, I think 150 is a good guess. I think if they did 135, it might not be enough.
It might be just, just a little.
[00:37:29] Speaker B: Bit 70 to 135.
[00:37:32] Speaker A: Like it would still be a fine lens, but I think it's just maybe just not enough for people. You know, someone might look at an alternative and just go, I could just get the 24 to 105F4 or something, you know, like I don't know. So I think.
Or this.
[00:37:45] Speaker B: Yeah, but it's very compelling, isn't it, to have three lenses the same size, the same weight, the same filters.
[00:37:50] Speaker A: Well, will they be able to make the other one the same weight?
[00:37:56] Speaker B: No. Well, even if, even if they're the same size, let's, let's ignore weight because either way, at that size it's going to be light. But.
[00:38:02] Speaker A: Or even though do you think they would be able to make it the same.
Yeah, the same size. Even that would be really tough.
[00:38:09] Speaker B: Well, that's why I think they'd have to not go to 200 because they couldn't possibly. Surely. Yeah, so maybe like a 28 to.
Yeah, like you said, 135. 150.
[00:38:20] Speaker A: 150 would be great. I'd be happy with that.
[00:38:23] Speaker B: I think a lot of people would and I'd buy it because as soon as you start going beyond that, you know, you, you're kind of shooting things that demand a little bit higher quality optics.
Once you go behind that one, once you go beyond that 150, 200, you're talking wildlife, talking birding.
[00:38:41] Speaker A: They don't necessarily need to be high. Like there's a lot of lenses that do those ranges that aren't high quality optics. But you do start making a lot of compromises, particularly in aperture. Like it's, it's rare that you're going to get a fixed aperture lens that goes past that distance.
That's not either small or, or it's either it's a smaller aperture or it's a large lens, a heavy lens or an expensive lens or whatever. So there is just, there's just physics trade offs.
[00:39:08] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:39:10] Speaker A: Bruce Moore says imagine if they just did a weird as number like 147.67.
[00:39:14] Speaker B: I love that.
[00:39:16] Speaker A: No, most lenses are that. I think they have. What's the, what's the legal, like the whatever or the sepa requirement or whatever. It only has to be within like 3% or something like that of the focal length to clock.
It doesn't have to be on the dot. It has. So like I'm pretty sure a lot of the lenses aren't exactly what they say they are.
[00:39:39] Speaker B: Well, you've seen that yourself when you compare like you've compared like a 14 mil to a 16 mil, haven't you? And, and they weren't that like before in camera correction. They weren't.
No, it wasn't that. It was something else you tested when you went up the hill and shot that old, big old mining rig.
Oh yeah.
[00:39:58] Speaker A: So yes, and they're all way wider than what they're advertising and then. And yeah, basically image correction at brings it to the focal length they're advertising.
But yeah, when they went before all that stuff, when brands were selling in the 90s at 28 to 70 lens, there's a solid chance that it was 71mil or 69mil.
Giggity diggity. So, all right, what's our next news article? I can keep hoping for that lens. Let's see. That's terrible.
[00:40:29] Speaker B: You can be interested to see what they do if they do anything.
[00:40:33] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:40:34] Speaker B: Let's talk Fujifilm because, you know, it's been a hot minute.
[00:40:37] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:40:38] Speaker B: I was waiting for a special jingle. Of course there isn't one. That's just in my head.
Let's talk about I know I've put these in the wrong order. First, let's talk about the Viltrox X100 conversion lenses, which is the second one in the list. So Fujifilm already makes. So if you own an X100, Fujifilm X100 fixed lens, 23 mil f2 little compact shooter.
What? What's funny?
[00:41:05] Speaker A: Just the ads.
[00:41:09] Speaker B: Yeah, it's shocking on here.
[00:41:10] Speaker A: Try and go in like that. There we go.
[00:41:12] Speaker B: All right, so Fujifilm already make their own wide and teleconversion options. So when you buy an X100, you have to buy a special like a lens mount adapter. So you can add things like a special or one that. So you can add a filter, two, so you can add a hood, a flared hood, and three, so you can add these teleconversion lenses. Now the Fuji ones have always been incredibly expensive, granted. I mean, they're Fujin on glass. They're not cheap throwaway things. They're proper lenses. And, and they're corrected. And when you attach one of the Fuji branded conversion lenses to your X100, the camera recognizes it and then makes adjustments to accommodate that because obviously everything changes in terms of what you see and what you shoot.
So Viltrops have just announced that they're coming out with their own versions, which is really interesting.
So again, remember that this sort of camera is a fixed lens camera.
And what this does is it opens up your opportunities to have a couple of extra lenses in your bag to, you know, get a slightly wider view or a slightly longer view without having to digital crop and reduce your resolution.
So yeah, I think it's cool.
[00:42:23] Speaker A: You know, what camera brand should look into doing instead of having to add these weird adapters onto the front of the fixed lens camera, imagine if they made it so you could actually take that lens off and swap it with a lens that was made specifically for that focal length. Instead of just trying to mean like.
[00:42:43] Speaker B: An interchangeable lens camera.
[00:42:45] Speaker A: Yes, that'd be fucking amazing.
[00:42:48] Speaker B: But just for that, like a really dedicated mount.
[00:42:51] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:42:52] Speaker B: So not the same Fuji mount, an X100 mount?
[00:42:55] Speaker A: No, just the same Fuji mount. Anyone buying these should probably have just bought an interchangeable lens camera like the XC5.
[00:43:01] Speaker B: You're an idiot.
[00:43:02] Speaker A: I am an idiot. I'm sorry.
[00:43:05] Speaker B: That was funny.
[00:43:06] Speaker A: It's good. You had me going especially. Look, these are probably a great solution because they're going to be priced a bit more affordably, the Fuji ones. Yeah. If you, if they're like, if they. If you're talking lensy kind of Prices.
[00:43:17] Speaker B: Yeah, they are.
[00:43:18] Speaker A: You start to question like what, what was I thinking when I bought this fixed lens camera? If I'm spending that much money on adapters. I don't know, maybe I'm. Maybe I just don't.
[00:43:28] Speaker B: They're good and they're fun. Like I bought one when I got my second Fuji X100. So the S.
I bought the wide conversion lens because I really like shooting straight with it because it really, really flared it out.
And I think, I think XY shoots one, has one on his Fujifilm X100 and he loves it. He leaves it on there almost all the time.
He just prefers that wider angle view.
[00:43:56] Speaker A: But, but why not just get a camera with a lens designed for that?
[00:44:01] Speaker B: Well, because there's something about that camera that's special and unique and beautiful and why not, you know, accessorize it and bling it out a little bit if that's your, you know, not that that's X's only camera, but if that's the camera kit that you want to take with you, but you want some options, but you don't want to go into interchangeable lens because you love the whole fact that it's affixed and it's a leaf shutter and it's all that stuff, then yeah, you just get a wide conversion lens or a teleconversion lens.
[00:44:24] Speaker A: Bruce is onto it. So we, we have one single lens. We do, we have one lens that can do like medium format. Whatever. The biggest sensor digital we can get is we have a lens designed to do that. That's our wide angle.
And then we have different camera bodies with progressively smaller sensors that give us. Or bigger, more distant. I don't know if we can go bigger than medium format, but yeah, that's a great idea, Bruce.
An interchangeable body system.
[00:44:57] Speaker B: Anyway, onto the next article.
[00:45:05] Speaker A: Anyway, so the next article should be a hit for me then.
[00:45:14] Speaker B: So apparently someone's doing that for the GFX100RF.
[00:45:18] Speaker A: So you've spent $9,000 on the GFX100RF. Fix the camera without Ibis instead of buying a GFX100SII.
But you can buy a big screw on lens for it or you can. Can you? Or is this just a.
[00:45:36] Speaker B: Maybe it's been announced. I don't think it's ready yet.
[00:45:39] Speaker A: Is it a Fuji thing? An official Fuji?
[00:45:42] Speaker B: No, I don't think it is. That's Viltrox.
Viltrox, this one. But there's also one for the Ricoh GR4 which has just been recently announced. And I think you can. Oh, it's already available at B and H.
[00:45:55] Speaker A: Hang on. It says it's Rico, the Ricoh. Oh, as in there. Someone's using it.
What? What is this?
I don't understand.
Is it designed for it?
[00:46:09] Speaker B: What's going on here? Why is B and H verifying? I'm a human.
Let's see. Amazon, they don't care.
So, yeah, they do one for the Ricoh GR as well. I think they're using that one.
They are. They're using the GW4 for the.
That doesn't make any sense.
[00:46:29] Speaker A: Yeah, it doesn't make sense, does it? Anyway, it must fit. I don't know.
Anyway, it's weird.
[00:46:36] Speaker B: So. Yeah, it is great. It's a crazy world, Justin.
[00:46:39] Speaker A: Interchangeable lenses for fixed lens cameras. It's. It's brilliant. I couldn't have thought of it myself.
[00:46:45] Speaker B: No, you couldn't have.
Let's talk about some Sony news, shall we?
[00:46:50] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:46:51] Speaker B: All right.
So there's a. There's a hot rumor that tomorrow Sony will.
Well, there's two announcements coming up. We don't know whether they're going to happen together, but Sony will soon announce a 16-28 F2GM lens.
That's if any issue with Sony GM glass. It is smashing. Pardon the pun.
[00:47:17] Speaker A: Well, so. So this will finalize the F2 Zoom Trinity. That already includes the Sony 28 to 70 F2 and the 50 to 150 F2.
So they really, like Canon, come out swinging and said, we just made the first F2 zoom lens 28 to 70.
[00:47:37] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:47:37] Speaker A: And then Sony looked at that and went, that's not. Not only can we do that lens lighter than you've done, but we can also build out a full trinity of F2s before you even release a second one.
Yeah, well played.
Well played, Sony.
It's pretty cool.
[00:47:58] Speaker B: Yep.
And the other bit of news, I.
[00:48:03] Speaker A: Mean, the rumor is true. Sorry. By the way, I'd be very surprised if it wasn't because they were able to pull off the other two lenses. So, yeah, 16 to 28 is a pretty. Yeah, pretty solid.
[00:48:15] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. Full frame. 16 to 28 is a really, you know, very heavily used focal range and an F2. Well, you know, that's just sweet. That sweetens the deal so much, especially in the full framework.
[00:48:27] Speaker A: And obviously they're also.
And then obviously also the A7 5 that we've talked about many times.
[00:48:35] Speaker B: We have. So that's tomorrow, according to the room.
[00:48:37] Speaker A: It is tomorrow.
Okay.
[00:48:39] Speaker B: Yeah. Apparently it's going to launch on the 20th on. They'll announce the launch of it tomorrow or on the 2nd of December, wherever that is. For whoever's doing the announcement, whether it's Japan or America. It'll be Japan, probably.
[00:48:50] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:48:52] Speaker B: So whatever that works out to be.
[00:48:54] Speaker A: And that will be the direct competitor to the canon R6 Mark III that we'll be unboxing very soon.
[00:49:00] Speaker B: Yeah, in just a few moments.
Hold tight, we're almost there.
And the final little bit of news, just in the other category there, is that Apple's new holiday film was shot entirely on the iPhone 17 Pro without AI. Well, you know, as far as we know, because didn't we talk about that last week? There was someone. Someone did an ad without using a. Well, with using AI. And then someone did an ad without using AI.
No, it was Sony. That's. Oh, gosh, I'm so confused. It was Coca Cola. They did their.
Their holiday.
[00:49:34] Speaker A: Yeah, they made it entirely with AI or whatever. Yeah. But, yeah.
[00:49:37] Speaker B: And had some stupid amount of prompts.
[00:49:39] Speaker A: Yes, I'm sure, like, other big productions have been shot entirely on iPhones before.
Yeah, it's. It's a common thing. It's usually, though, like, it's obviously. Obviously it's a testament to how impressive they are.
But they're all lit and, you know.
[00:49:57] Speaker B: Yeah, shot.
[00:49:58] Speaker A: Shot by absolute weapons of.
[00:50:01] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:50:02] Speaker A: Of film.
[00:50:03] Speaker B: Yeah. There'd be gimbals and stability and all that sort of stuff. It's not like you just pull it out of your.
[00:50:08] Speaker A: Out of your pocket and controlled lighting and everything. And. Yeah, the camera becomes a little bit secondary in that. But the iPhone is very capable, so. Pretty cool. I've actually watched it. I don't know if it's anything.
[00:50:21] Speaker B: Yeah, it's all right. It's a bit boring, but, you know, so I prefer the AI stuff, but.
[00:50:26] Speaker A: No, Craig.
[00:50:31] Speaker B: Well, that's the end of the news.
[00:50:33] Speaker A: That's the end of the news. Well, I guess that's.
[00:50:35] Speaker B: It's.
[00:50:35] Speaker A: It's now time for. It's time.
It's time. I need a drum roll or something.
Let's see what's in this box.
[00:50:46] Speaker B: Time for the live unboxing.
Everybody stop what you're doing.
If you're editing, put that mouse down for a moment. All eyes on Justin.
[00:50:57] Speaker A: You can keep editing. It's. Everyone's seen these.
Oh, you want me to make me bigger? Okay, hang on, I'll get a little bit bigger.
[00:51:04] Speaker B: It's easy for me to tell you to do it now. Go and do the whole screen.
[00:51:08] Speaker A: Oh, no, then you'll be Tiny.
[00:51:10] Speaker B: I'll be all right. I'll be okay. I've been little before. I've been little my whole life.
[00:51:14] Speaker A: Hang on, I'll just. I don't know what that means. This big.
And then I'll put you all the way over here. No one puts Greg in the corner.
There we go.
[00:51:23] Speaker B: All right, I'm happy with that. That's a great compromise.
[00:51:27] Speaker A: Oh, Rick Nelson just said. Did you even check it's the right box? I actually didn't.
[00:51:31] Speaker B: Yeah. Maybe it's the new sewing machine you wanted.
[00:51:33] Speaker A: No, it is. It is, but. Yeah. Imagine if it just hadn't arrived yet.
And this was my hooded towel.
[00:51:48] Speaker B: Did it come with a pattern? Like, was it a bluey or a Bob the Builder one? Or was it just a color?
[00:51:54] Speaker A: You'll have to wait and see it in the next week's unboxing.
I'd rather not.
I didn't just order cameras, so there's a couple other things in here.
Been waiting for this for a little while. This is the. I've tested one of these. This is the digital.
The DME1D digital microphone from Canon. Apparently it's not amazing, but it's pretty good. I've tested it and I decided after killing my rode Videomic Pro plus, this was gonna be my best option because I'm sick of the little dangly cord this provided. Good enough, Good enough.
So anyway, pop that over there.
What else?
I got some paper for my printer.
Talk about that in a minute. But I've been having trouble with my printer.
[00:52:54] Speaker B: Yeah, I want to get an update.
[00:52:56] Speaker A: So I thought I'd buy some cheap Canon paper to do some more.
[00:53:00] Speaker B: Yeah, good idea.
[00:53:01] Speaker A: Well, and obviously they've got all of their priorities, profiles and stuff built in, so I thought for some calibration purposes, I got some Photo Paper Pro Luster. Just some classic old.
[00:53:13] Speaker B: I like that word, luster. It's a good word.
[00:53:16] Speaker A: And Photo Paper Pro Platinum, which has the.
The nicer looking packaging, which is always good.
[00:53:25] Speaker B: It's like Christmas morning for little Justin. Yeah, you need to be. He. Did Rick Nelson say little? I added the little.
But you need to be doing this in your new bath towel like you just unpacked it under the tree.
[00:53:38] Speaker A: All right, there's the 45 mil RF STM. That will save that for a. In a minute. Yep. Okay, here it is.
You know, very, very.
[00:53:51] Speaker B: Oh, hang on, hang on. Here's an important.
His important announcement from the real boss of the Camera life podcast.
Yelena says he doesn't get anything for Christmas because He buys it all for himself all year long in caps.
I, I, I see it. I see it, Yolanda. I, I see your pain. And I'm here for you if you need to debrief.
If you want us to stage an intervention, we can do that. I'm sure we can get lots of members of the Camera Life podcast to come along and stage that intervention with you. So, anyway, you go ahead, Justin. Enjoy your unboxing. Might be your last.
[00:54:26] Speaker A: All right. Oh, it's not me. Come on.
[00:54:28] Speaker B: All right, Sorry.
[00:54:29] Speaker A: To me, it's the R6 unboxing R6 Mark III.
We get to see whether Canon have leveled up their packaging. Because if there's one thing I think is if you're spending 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, $11,000 on camera gear, whatever that might be, Canon R1, for example, or anything even lower, the box could be better, but we'll see. Maybe they've leveled it up.
[00:54:56] Speaker B: Is that because they've moved to recycled materials or.
[00:54:59] Speaker A: No, they've always been crap.
[00:55:01] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:55:01] Speaker A: Like, like if you, you know, there are Bluetooth speakers that you buy that have nicer packaging than can. Like every Nikon, Canon, every. The packaging has become an afterthought. There's no unboxing experience. There's no nothing.
And I just think with the way photography is heading, if you're investing that much into a system, like, it doesn't even have to be packaging that is more, you know, like, less environmentally friendly or anything like that. Yeah, no, of course you can, you can just take more care. We put more effort into the packaging that our camera straps come with.
[00:55:41] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:55:41] Speaker A: That have a little card, a little handwritten card in there. There's a little bag and there's a little cotton bag.
[00:55:47] Speaker B: And little cotton bag.
[00:55:49] Speaker A: You know, some stickers. Like, are there any Canon stickers in here? Probably not.
[00:55:52] Speaker B: Not a one.
[00:55:53] Speaker A: Could be. They could, could be Canon.
Let me do your packaging.
[00:55:58] Speaker B: Imagine if you put all of your Canon stickers on that, all your purchase stickers on the back of your car.
You wouldn't be able to back your car would be like the wheels would be sinking from the weight.
[00:56:07] Speaker A: See, this is. Bruce says the Sony Cinema boxes are just yellow with black text. So generic for a $10,000 investment or more. Exactly. And it's like, yes, they're a tool, but that doesn't mean you can't make the person feel like they've just bought something that is powerful and creative and high end. And Lucinda also wants Canon stickers. Yeah, exactly. We should do it you know what? We should start a camera shop where we repackage everything with our own packaging. Obviously, it would be more expensive, but people get a better premium experience for $50 more than whatever you buy. It's $50 more, but you get a better unboxing experience.
[00:56:46] Speaker B: But you know what we should do? It'll be a bit like pet photography. Like, we'll set up a little studio with a table and nice lighting and a nice comfy chair. And you can go and buy the premium box product and then unbox it and we will film it for you so you've got a lasting memory of that unboxing experience. We'll do ASMR cuts. We'll do clips for you. What?
I'm onto something really, aren't I?
[00:57:08] Speaker A: Hang on a minute. Do we.
Do we have a new manual?
Are they finally shipping. Are they finally shipping manuals again? No, it's a getting started booklet in a thousand languages, so there's actually three pages that are relevant to me.
[00:57:26] Speaker B: Wow, you sound bitter. Just give me a qr.
[00:57:28] Speaker A: I am a little bit bitter. I am a little bit bitter. I'm trying.
[00:57:31] Speaker B: Can I just say, interesting, Interesting little. Little side bit here. When I got the Fujifilm XE5 demo model, it was in a.
Hang on, I'm interrupting your boxing.
[00:57:41] Speaker A: Just.
[00:57:41] Speaker B: Just give me a sec here. It's. It's just interest, that's all.
The boxing was all kind of like that recycled bread, like the lucky strap boxes. But it had all the printing on it and everything. Yet when I bought one, when I got my official one sent to me, the production model, it came in a white box with, like, you know, glossy text and stuff. It was weird. So two different versions. Anyway, sorry, you got. This is your moment. I keep hijacking it. I'm sorry.
[00:58:08] Speaker A: That is strange.
Okay, Bruce, I don't need to read the getting started book. I would read the full manual, but I do not need to read the getting started booklet. Let's go, Bruce.
[00:58:21] Speaker B: Love it.
[00:58:22] Speaker A: There's nothing useful in this booklet ever. It'll be like 10 different things saying that they accept no responsibility if the camera somehow kills you, and how to plug the charger in. And that's it.
[00:58:36] Speaker B: Did they include a cord for charging?
Oh, what is that sexy little thing?
[00:58:44] Speaker A: The least useful thing that comes with any camera.
And as Paul said, won't be needing that.
[00:58:53] Speaker B: It's gone.
Can we do that again? Because your other Canon camera just lost focus while you did that.
[00:59:02] Speaker A: Okay, what do you got there?
[00:59:03] Speaker B: What do you got there?
[00:59:04] Speaker A: We've got the new battery it comes with. Unfortunately, I need to buy a lot more of these if I'm gonna ditch the R3, which is sad.
[00:59:12] Speaker B: So it's not the same as the R5 II?
[00:59:14] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, it's the same as the R5.2, but it's not the same as the R5 one. So I'll now have three of these for two cameras. And I've got five of the R5.1 batteries. The. The previous version, the LP E6. Not the LP E6P or whatever. No LP E6N. I can't remember the old one. It works in them, but it restricts a lot of the video functions and even some of the photo functions. So it's like, I need to buy more of these.
[00:59:41] Speaker B: Fuck you, Canon.
[00:59:42] Speaker A: Yeah, you can.
Bruce says, I've never used the strap from my camera boxes. That's right. You just put them back in the box. And then when you sell the camera, you say, oh, is this trap? It's never been used.
[00:59:52] Speaker B: Yeah, it's like new.
It's good for resale value.
[00:59:56] Speaker A: Okay, we're finally getting to the actual thing. So in the beautiful box, there is nothing.
Nothing. No little message saying, hey, awesome to have you as part of the Canon crew. Like part of the family.
You've invested a lot of money with us.
[01:00:13] Speaker B: Not a handwritten note from Jen?
[01:00:16] Speaker A: No.
[01:00:16] Speaker B: Or from Camera House. Nothing.
[01:00:18] Speaker A: None of them.
[01:00:18] Speaker B: None of them care.
[01:00:20] Speaker A: Don't get me wrong, the people that I buy the cameras off are great. It's just. It's more like the corporate packaging that's a bit bland. They just need to level up.
[01:00:28] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:00:28] Speaker A: And here we have it. Finally, after all that.
Will that take half an hour to unbox this thing?
[01:00:34] Speaker B: Come on.
[01:00:35] Speaker A: When you've got it on.
[01:00:36] Speaker B: Just gotta wait for focus.
[01:00:38] Speaker A: Well, it's on face. Of course, it's doing what it's supposed to do. There she is.
Six.
[01:00:46] Speaker B: Nice. Happy new camera day, boss.
[01:00:49] Speaker A: Thanks.
[01:00:49] Speaker B: I'm really happy for you. I mean, we all make purchase mistakes, but I'm really happy for you.
[01:00:55] Speaker A: I'm immediately seeing obviously very familiar control layout to the R5 Mark II. You know, we got the power stuff over this side and the photo video switch over that side. But obviously the difference, the R5 Mark II has a screen up the top over this side. Can't do anything.
There's a screen. This one's got the mode dial, which I actually think will be fine for the way that I work. I don't think it'll be a major bother.
[01:01:20] Speaker B: Yeah, well, you Shoot this in. In auto.
So that's the A on the. The PASM dial. I'll send you a video. Go on. Sorry. Hijack.
[01:01:32] Speaker A: Please, Greg, please, please. Nicely auto different hot shoe cover.
This one's going to get lost for sure.
It just slides right off.
[01:01:49] Speaker B: Can't come off.
[01:01:50] Speaker A: Everyone complained about the R5. Okay, so the R5 Mark II comes with a hot shoe cover. Maybe I can take it off. They say you can't take it off easily. There is a technique to it. I just took it off with one hand and it's far better. Let's see if it fits. Let's see if it. Is this thing going to focus at all? Probably not.
[01:02:09] Speaker B: You will lose that very quick.
[01:02:11] Speaker A: Yeah, that one just slides off.
Let's see if this one fits.
No, don't get it stuck on there.
It fits, but not. Not the same way. It's a different.
So the hot shoe sticks up higher.
The hot shoe surround sticks up higher. So you can see.
See how this isn't sitting flush?
[01:02:38] Speaker B: Yeah. Because it dips down.
[01:02:40] Speaker A: Because it dips down. So the rubber, like the weather ceiling isn't sort of sitting flush. That's why they haven't used the same one. I don't like that. Why wouldn't they just make all that the same? So, yeah, you can see there's ridges. I can't see how it's raised up. The other ones flush with the body.
[01:02:59] Speaker B: And you'll lose it.
[01:03:00] Speaker A: Super weird. Oh, yeah, yeah.
[01:03:03] Speaker B: I've got a whole bag of those for Fuji cameras somewhere. I just keep buying them in case.
[01:03:07] Speaker A: I'm gonna have to glue it in.
Bruce wants to know where the crop dial is. There is no crop dial because it's not a Fujifilm GFX100R.
[01:03:24] Speaker B: Camera.
[01:03:24] Speaker A: Elaine is confused. Elaine wants to know what. Didn't that camera come out ages ago? Why'd you wait so long? Did you get a special edition camera strap with it? No, that's the. That's the R5 Mark 2. This is the R6 Mark 3. I know it's.
[01:03:36] Speaker B: Keep up, Yelena.
[01:03:37] Speaker A: It's quite different.
[01:03:40] Speaker B: They are quite similar. Yelena.
Very little difference.
[01:03:44] Speaker A: All right, who else is sitting?
Already set to auto for me. Yep. Look. No, it's actually got a. It's got a slow and fast or whatever that's called. SNF button. Slow and fast. But it was slow and quick.
[01:03:59] Speaker B: What's that for?
[01:04:00] Speaker A: It's a thing.
No, it's like for shutter speeds, like your shutter angle and being able to go, ah, okay, fancy Slower than your shutter. Bruce will explain it, but I'm pretty sure it's S and Q on Sony.
[01:04:19] Speaker B: We don't have that on Fujifilm.
That's like a pro feature.
[01:04:26] Speaker A: Yeah. Looks the same as the Fuji XT5. Hot shoe cover. Lost mine within a week of having it. Christine says. Exactly.
[01:04:33] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:04:34] Speaker A: And Rick says the body is mostly the same as the R6 II, just slightly different. Yeah, it's ever so slightly different.
[01:04:40] Speaker B: Have you shot with an R6 before, any of them?
[01:04:43] Speaker A: No, I've had my hands on one but I haven't owned one, so this will be the first. The R3 is, was really like a similar sensor size and stuff, but just with far better everything than the previous R6 Mark II. Whereas this being a 33 megapixel camera is a little bit of a different proposition. Instead of 24, it's a much closer in resolution to the R5 mark II. I'm really keen to test high ISO between the R3, the R6 mark 3 and the R5 mark 2 and see how they compare with high ISO, base ISO, shadow recovery or dynamic range and stuff. And also just focusing for action sports.
[01:05:25] Speaker B: And then once you've done all of that, maybe you should just drop a prime on it and actually just go out and enjoy it.
[01:05:30] Speaker A: I enjoy my cameras all the time.
[01:05:32] Speaker B: Yeah, but you don't have to be always focused on all the technical stuff.
[01:05:36] Speaker A: I'd like to know whether I've bought.
[01:05:38] Speaker B: No, I get all of that. Like I said, once you've done all that, I doubt you've got a piece of crud.
What else has got going on? What ports has it got?
[01:05:48] Speaker A: Yes, they did actually upgrade it to a full HDMI port, which is nice.
[01:05:52] Speaker B: Nice.
[01:05:53] Speaker A: So this might end up. This might end up becoming a webcam, which would be good because I plug my webcam in with a cam link 4k which uses HDMI and it's nice to just have a full size port, which is quite lovely. What else, what else? Otherwise everything's pretty similar. It's really going to be more about testing it and seeing how it, how it goes.
[01:06:14] Speaker B: How does it feel in the hand for you?
[01:06:16] Speaker A: Very much the same as the R5 I'll be able to do when I can get that camera off the mount. When we're not live stream, I'll be able to hold them and just see if there is any difference. But it feels very similar.
Eye relief is similar, I think maybe similar, if not just slightly less.
[01:06:38] Speaker B: And what sort of cards does it take?
[01:06:40] Speaker A: Does the battery Come charged.
It does not.
Well, that's sad.
It takes the same as the R5 Mark II, which is a CF Express, type B and an SD.
[01:06:52] Speaker B: Okay, so congratulations.
[01:06:56] Speaker A: Two different slotties.
[01:06:58] Speaker B: Yeah, love a good slot.
Craig on a camera. Jesus, you were so filth.
[01:07:06] Speaker A: Paul.
[01:07:07] Speaker B: Paul Henderson wants to know if they have a. A fixed lens version of that. You can add a teleconversion lens onto it.
[01:07:15] Speaker A: That we'll see. Maybe that'll be next. Yeah, if you.
[01:07:19] Speaker B: If you really jam the lens on there. Well, you know.
[01:07:24] Speaker A: We dragged that out long enough. I will be doing testing. So if you're watching this show later on and you found this hideously boring, you can ask me anything in the comments and I'll test it.
[01:07:33] Speaker B: If there's something you want to know into every episode.
[01:07:36] Speaker A: If there's something you want to know about the R6 Mark III, comment below or jump on one of the future episodes and just ask me.
What do you want to find out?
[01:07:44] Speaker B: You can even call.
[01:07:45] Speaker A: How does it compare? Yeah, you could just call in next week. Just call in and ask me a question. I'll test it live on the show if I can. We'll figure it out.
Okay, next segment is the next unboxing.
[01:08:01] Speaker B: Big day for you. Big day.
[01:08:03] Speaker A: Boy, this is the coolest thing.
You know, the R6 Mark III was kind of essentially what it was supposed to be. Whereas the RF45F1.2, I even said when this was rumored, I was like, they're not making that. They just won't make it. I said. I said, no, they won't make that. It's crazy.
[01:08:20] Speaker B: And they've done it.
[01:08:21] Speaker A: They make. They've already made another 50. Like, they made the 50, then they made another 50, and then another 50. Why would they make something that's just another 50?
[01:08:29] Speaker B: It is interesting, isn't it, that they've dropped it to 45. Like, with that, you know, like we saw with that rumored trinity where they've changed the focal distance just slightly so they don't have to expand the size of the barrel of the lens or extend it. And that's what they've done here with the 45 to make it a 1.2. They've actually dropped 5 mil off the focal range in order to squeeze it all into such a compact form. No one asked them to do that. They just decided to do that.
[01:08:54] Speaker A: I really should have changed the autofocus settings on this camera before we did this particular show off face into something else. It's very hard to do where it's currently Mounted. So I'm sorry about that. Yeah, look at it. I mean, it is light. It is very light, especially for the size of the lens. To be honest, the lens is slightly bigger than I thought it would be. Really slightly. I. I thought it would be slight. Okay, so grab a 50. Here's the first comparison. The RF35 1.8.
[01:09:25] Speaker B: That's a nice.
[01:09:27] Speaker A: So this is an STM lens. Come on. So it's an STM lens, but it's got image stabilization as well.
This one has no image stabilization.
Come on.
Look at that.
So it's longer. It weighs almost the same.
I'll check what the exact weights are, but it weighs almost the same.
[01:09:55] Speaker B: You've got little boy hands. So can you hold it up next to your iPhone or something so we can get some scale?
[01:10:00] Speaker A: My hands are bigger than yours.
Let's get some other lenses. Hold on a second. I'm gonna. I'm gonna get some other lenses.
[01:10:09] Speaker B: All right, while you're doing that, I'm gonna go through some comments while he's not here.
Plastic fantastic. I don't know. We'll ask. Good question, though.
What else we got? Yelena retracted earlier comment, which is a fair call. I get this. You know, I suggested that.
Well, Yelena was talking about how yet another camera for Justin, and she retracted that previous comment. She realized that it was a different camera number, but it is the same. Same for her. And I get that.
I hear you.
You are. Seen Bruce's comments a little too rude to play on air.
What did you grab?
[01:10:57] Speaker A: All right, okay. I grabbed all the 50s except. So my actual. All right. My EF 51.2 is currently at Jim's house.
So I don't have.
I don't have my EF 51.2, which will be a great comparison because some people said that maybe they're similar.
I have a feeling it won't quite live up to the EF 51.2, but there's been speculation.
[01:11:25] Speaker B: I had that lens when I was a Canon shooter.
That was one. That was like, the best lens I ever bought. Like, in terms of cost and all of that, but in terms of image quality, I loved it.
[01:11:37] Speaker A: Yeah. Beautiful. Loved it. So, yeah, the reports on the Internet and I'll be really keen to test this out because I love 50s. The reports on the Internet are that it's. It's beautiful. Like, beautiful for what it is, but it's. It doesn't have that, like, exceptional rendering that the EF 51.2 had for, like, out of focus areas. And stuff like that.
[01:11:57] Speaker B: It's not, it's not in the same category. It's not what it's for.
[01:12:01] Speaker A: So where are we going to start with this? Let's start with an old lens. This is the. So this is the EF 51.4.
[01:12:11] Speaker B: Had that too.
No, I had all three of the 50s. Yeah.
[01:12:15] Speaker A: So this is the USM version.
So that was like the common upgrade from the plastic fantastic nifty 50, but not, not the full on L lens. I'd. I think the L lens will be a bit heavier than the 45.1.2, the EF 51.2, but it won't be much. Physically much bigger. It's just a little bit wider for memory. So you can see there the EF in this.
[01:12:41] Speaker B: Yeah, I remember that about the, the 51.2 AF mount. It is a wide lens like it. I remember how much it flared out from the camera.
[01:12:48] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. But I don't think it'll be much longer.
Okay, next one.
The RF 51.8.
Plastic fantastic. As you can see, significantly smaller, half the length but no manual focus.
No manual focus ring on the.
Gosh.
On the 50.
Why didn't I put it in some sort of product showcase mode?
[01:13:20] Speaker B: Don't know.
[01:13:21] Speaker A: Because I'm a fool. But yeah, significantly bigger weight wise. Obviously this, this little thing is lighter, but it's not a great deal. Oh, look at that.
It's not, it's not a great deal lighter. You know, like it's. The 45 certainly isn't heavy.
So weight, weight won't be a primary concern.
[01:13:40] Speaker B: What is it? What is the weight of it?
[01:13:43] Speaker A: 340 grams or something like that. Whereas this is more like 180 or 100. But on a body the size of like an R6 Mark III, it's not going to be an issue.
So you'd be choosing. I'm really interested to see between these two what the image quality is like.
Say it. F2 compared to the RF 1.8 and the RF 45.1.2. How do they compare it? F2 for chromatic aberration, for sharpness and for this, the out of focus areas in the background. Are you getting a big step up with this?
Even at F2 or at F2, are they almost the same? And you're really just paying to get the ability to go down to 1.2.
That's what I want to know.
[01:14:30] Speaker B: In preparation for this episode and because you're my friend and I care for you, I watched Petapixel's review of the 4512 and they said it was very soft in the corners. Even stop down.
[01:14:43] Speaker A: Yep, exactly. Which for a travel lens, not amazing. But for a portrait lens, who cares?
[01:14:49] Speaker B: Yeah. But as a street lens, if you're shooting it like 5.6 or F8, it's not going to make any difference.
[01:14:55] Speaker A: Well, it might not, but it's still also like if you're shooting at 5.6, if there's a chance that this might even be sharp or I'll have to look like the cheap lens, the RF 51.8 might be sharper in the corners. That's what I want to find out. Like, at what point is it worth getting the 1.2? And at what point should you just get the nifty 50 and not worry about.
[01:15:17] Speaker B: I think that's a great. It's going to be a great observation for sure.
[01:15:20] Speaker A: And then obviously we've got the, the 51.4 L lens.
[01:15:27] Speaker B: Yep.
[01:15:28] Speaker A: Which is bigger, heavier, not a great deal. I think there might be even the same filter thread. They're both 67s. Yeah. So, okay, same barrel width, but it's shorter and definitely lighter.
[01:15:43] Speaker B: It will feel different quality. Yeah.
[01:15:45] Speaker A: And definitely different build quality. So this, this one's not weather sealed.
It doesn't come with a lens hood because. Fuck you, Canon. Just put the plastic lens hood in there. They're not that expensive, you know, like they only include lens hoods with our lenses.
[01:15:59] Speaker B: That's crazy.
[01:16:00] Speaker A: That's crazy. I love you, Canon, but seriously, they.
[01:16:02] Speaker B: Can'T even put a bloody aperture ring on the lenses and now they're taking lens hoods away. What's next?
[01:16:09] Speaker A: I'd be very surprised if my lens hood off one of my other 67 mil lens doesn't do a good enough job.
Look like, like probably the one off this L lens will fit it just fine.
[01:16:20] Speaker B: Yeah.
Do you often use lens hoods?
[01:16:23] Speaker A: I never use them in the rain.
[01:16:26] Speaker B: Oh, well, yeah, it's about it. Yeah.
[01:16:30] Speaker A: Pretty rare.
[01:16:31] Speaker B: That's not quite what they're made for, but anyway.
[01:16:34] Speaker A: Finally, last but not least, the actual king of 50 mil lenses, the RF50 Mil 1.2 compared to the RF45 Mil 1.2.
[01:16:46] Speaker B: That'll be really interesting to see just how, what the difference is. It might be massive. It might be surprising.
[01:16:53] Speaker A: Triple the weight, double the size, but probably a lot, a lot. Big difference in sharpness at 1.2. This thing is sharp too. It's crazy.
[01:17:04] Speaker B: Oh, sorry. I gasped audibly because I thought Lucinda was referring to a lens. I lost Mine walking around the festival this weekend. But lens.
[01:17:14] Speaker A: A lens hood.
[01:17:15] Speaker B: Hopefully it was just a lens hood.
[01:17:18] Speaker A: Cool.
[01:17:18] Speaker B: If you lost your lens. Lost your.
Neither of those are good.
No, that's great. Congratulations. New lens day. New camera day. What a day for you, sir.
[01:17:27] Speaker A: What a day. Now I've got stuff everywhere and I've got a lot of testing to do.
[01:17:31] Speaker B: You do? Are you going to film some of that? You're going to make some content for.
[01:17:35] Speaker A: I really want to.
[01:17:36] Speaker B: TCL viewers.
[01:17:38] Speaker A: Yeah, I really want to. It's hard to be motivated to, but I really would like to. So again, if there's something specific. Not don't say, I want a review of the R3, R5, R6 Mark III. Tell me something specific you want tested that the average reviewer hasn't done yet.
Yeah, something specific.
[01:17:56] Speaker B: Yeah. And maybe we can just have a live chat about it.
[01:17:59] Speaker A: Exactly. I'll definitely be doing the test and talking about on this podcast, but I should probably film some content because they got. I mean the, the. Yeah, the R5 Mark 2 autofocus test has got like 15, 000 views.
[01:18:12] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:18:13] Speaker A: So it's been.
[01:18:14] Speaker B: The video you did. The video you did about that tricky hot shoe cover that they put on the R5 II.
[01:18:21] Speaker A: Yep.
[01:18:21] Speaker B: That's still getting comments.
Because I was going through the comments this morning and there was someone was still commenting on that video from. How long ago was that? It was like 12 months ago.
[01:18:30] Speaker A: Yeah. Whenever it came out, it was a while ago.
[01:18:32] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:18:33] Speaker A: Wow.
[01:18:35] Speaker B: So you got a big haul from. From the folks at Canon today.
[01:18:39] Speaker A: Sure did. Paid for every. Every single thing.
Unfortunately, I'm not. I'm not an influencer, so I don't care.
[01:18:46] Speaker B: Yeah, well, but, you know, still got pimples. But yeah, you're definitely not influencer age anymore.
[01:18:52] Speaker A: No, that's right. I don't think influencers have pimples. They all get filtered out.
[01:18:56] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah, they do.
[01:18:58] Speaker A: Check out this paper. Professional studio finish photo paper with superior vividness.
I like vividness.
Love vividness.
That's glossy. I don't think I'm gonna like that very much.
That's. I mean, I like. Yeah, I don't like fully matte paper. It's. The blacks always look a bit muted to me.
[01:19:26] Speaker B: I'm not.
[01:19:27] Speaker A: I'm not fine artist, but this is extreme. Yeah.
It seems I'd be good to play with.
We'll see. Anyway, do a test.
Well, you know what I was thinking?
[01:19:44] Speaker B: What were you thinking?
[01:19:46] Speaker A: I was contemplating printing a photo that someone submitted tonight on this paper.
[01:19:57] Speaker B: All right. But before we do that because you've spent two weeks complaining about the calibration of your printer. Have you sorted that out?
[01:20:04] Speaker A: No, but I've got some photos to show you my progress and that's good. And we can talk about that as well.
[01:20:11] Speaker B: Can you not just do a hard reset and just go back to the beginning and.
[01:20:16] Speaker A: Oh, I'm. I'm. I'm fully back to the beginning. It's still coming up. Jonah, should we.
Yeah. Not need a semi gloss or a pearl? Yeah, I. Look, I've. I usually use buried paper. Canson buried. And for example I think this retails for like this, this stuff retails for like $35 for a box of 20.
Whereas the varieter that I normally use is like 80.
So it's significantly more expensive but it's out of stock at the moment. I've got a little bit left over there. That's what I printed. That's what I printed all of these tests on.
Really expensive, amazing photo paper. But gosh, it's nice. It's like it has the punchiness of a semi gloss but it doesn't reflect as much or something. I don't know how it does it.
Voodoo magic.
Hanson.
[01:21:13] Speaker B: Yeah. Canson have been doing. I was, I was buying Canson products when I was in art school. Not for photography but for.
[01:21:20] Speaker A: Is that what you used to write with the quills on?
[01:21:22] Speaker B: Yeah, the quills, yeah. No, I had a tablet and a piece of chalk. A block of chalk.
[01:21:28] Speaker A: Right.
[01:21:28] Speaker B: Had to make the one block last all year.
[01:21:34] Speaker A: Anyway. So I was thinking maybe I'll do a surprise while we go through the. Your images. I'll do a surprise print and whose printed is.
They can win something. Maybe I'll send it to them.
[01:21:44] Speaker B: I don't know. Yeah, well that would be a start.
[01:21:48] Speaker A: What do you mean it would be.
[01:21:49] Speaker B: A start Sending them their own photo.
[01:21:52] Speaker A: Yeah. Here's your own photo.
[01:21:54] Speaker B: Yeah, I'm going to keep.
[01:21:55] Speaker A: Congratulations.
[01:21:56] Speaker B: If you want your photo, just submit.
[01:21:58] Speaker A: Payment too because also there's a solid chance that it won't.
It won't come out well.
[01:22:04] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:22:06] Speaker A: Anyway, I'm gonna set it going. We'll see what happens and we'll get into these photos.
[01:22:11] Speaker B: Nice.
Please left me alone again. That's always dangerous.
Greg Carrick says slate. Did I not say slate? What did I say I had a stone tablet? Was it slate? I think it was.
Christine says that the.
The ultra shiny paper is really good for cars with a lot of chrome. That makes a lot of sense. That would be very punchy but yeah, what else is going on here?
Guys are full of beans tonight. How's the new Fuji doing? Good question. Glad you asked. The new Fuji is doing very well.
I've been playing around different.
Different autofocus settings. I've been. I've been mostly shooting with the 27F 2.8 Pancake prime, which I love, but I'm going to change things up a bit and go to a 23F2.
So that's. That's my next.
I might head out tomorrow for a little walk. The.
If the weather gods are kind to me and.
And obviously I've got those black mist filters coming. They've already shipped so they should come in the next day and yeah, I might get out one night. Well, actually, I'm going to the alpaca event on Thursday evening, so I'll get some shots for that to show you guys.
But I might also hopefully have the black mist filters by then. I can take them out and get the, you know, the Ferris wheel lit up and stuff with the black mist filter. There's a huge Ferris wheel above Docklands where I'm going. So.
You've been doing well, gc. Well, thank you, gc.
I appreciate that, mate. I've been really enjoying the process and the experience has been wonderful and I'm finding my fitness levels and my energy levels are going up.
So much so that I had a fall, but we'll get to that later.
But, yes, I have been enjoying the street walks.
[01:24:07] Speaker A: Yeah, you've been crushing it.
[01:24:09] Speaker B: Thanks, man. Means a lot.
[01:24:11] Speaker A: Yeah, the photos have been. I think the photos might have leveled up.
[01:24:15] Speaker B: I feel like. Yeah, I've had a couple of banging days.
[01:24:17] Speaker A: You've unlocked a new.
A new level, I think.
[01:24:21] Speaker B: Yeah, you'll have been hibernating for a bit, so maybe that hibernation process was more of a, you know, rather than a grumpy old bear coming out of a cave, it was more of a butterfly bursting forth from a chrysalis. I like that better.
So I was a slug, now I'm at least a moth.
So, you know.
[01:24:41] Speaker A: Yeah, I don't know whether. And speaking of slugs and moths, whether do you think, is it possible that somehow macro has helped in, like, reinvigorate your street photography?
[01:24:52] Speaker B: Not directly, but indirectly getting out with the macro lens because I. I just wasn't feeling it for street. And then, you know, I got the macro not long before we went to befop and then I did some macro at bfop and I love the results I got from that because it's, you know, it was beautiful.
[01:25:05] Speaker A: Bright, bright.
[01:25:07] Speaker B: Lots of beautiful flowers and, and stuff going on there.
I think that just encouraged me to pick up my camera again, if anything.
Yeah, it really got me out of the house, walking out the gate, heading down to the park, just getting out and then, you know, we've started getting better days with light, good light and Yeah, I just, I've just been. Yeah. You know, David said that my enjoyment is showing in my work and. And I am, I'm loving it. I am enjoying it. You know, the other day I went out for a walk and despite my tumble, I then powered on for another three hours and that's fairly unusual for me these days, so. Really enjoying it.
[01:25:47] Speaker A: Speaking of your walk and tumble, should we just move on to the. Your images section and you can have a little bit of a chat about your walk and tumble?
[01:25:53] Speaker B: Sure, why not?
[01:25:55] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:25:55] Speaker B: Gotta play the jingle.
[01:25:57] Speaker A: Okay.
Wait for it.
[01:25:59] Speaker B: So many moving parts for you.
[01:26:03] Speaker A: It's harder than you could possibly imagine.
[01:26:06] Speaker B: I love your work.
So, yes, I did go out. Did you want to bring up some of my images or you want me to bring them up?
[01:26:11] Speaker A: No, I've got them here.
[01:26:13] Speaker B: So I went out last Friday, pretty keen. Woke up, light was gorgeous, got out the house early. So Brendan went off to school and I left and ah, someone got me a beautiful gift.
[01:26:28] Speaker A: It's Tony.
[01:26:29] Speaker B: Hey, Tony.
[01:26:30] Speaker A: To buy a coffee while he's on a walk. 7.99, Tony. That's epic. Although I don't think that'll cover a Melbourne coffee anymore. I think they might get like maybe a small long. A small black or something.
If you want milk, it's probably 13.
[01:26:44] Speaker B: But I appreciate it, Tony. Thank you.
[01:26:46] Speaker A: Thanks, Tone. You're driving your sim?
[01:26:48] Speaker B: Yeah. What are you doing? What are you doing?
Anyway, so I went out for a walk, headed straight for the city of Melbourne. Walked around the cbd. Beautiful light, as you can see. That was really punchy too. Very contrasty morning.
I got out super early and so the city was Friday. City was busy.
Lots of nice tonal values everywhere, but very sharp, very, very sharp angled shadows which I made the most of.
[01:27:15] Speaker A: Yeah, really blocking her eyes. Look at her like, that's how.
[01:27:19] Speaker B: That's how bad it was. Yeah.
[01:27:20] Speaker A: She's looks like she's wearing sunglasses and had to block her eyes.
[01:27:25] Speaker B: Yeah, that's how bright it was. It was like, you know, nuclear holocaust bright.
[01:27:31] Speaker A: That's next level.
[01:27:32] Speaker B: It is, yeah.
[01:27:33] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:27:35] Speaker B: But, yeah, and so anyway, I was on.
I was walking up Flinders street because I always duck down to graves. Have a little squiz down there. And I came out of the new, one of the new metro because they're just doing the new metro train system in Melbourne which opened yesterday on the weekend. I didn't go down there, but I'm gonna go down maybe tomorrow.
Anyway, what is it like three or four new subway stations that are all state of the art, high tech, very Japanese apparently.
Like Japanese.
Some Japanese train stations are phenomenal. Anyway, I keep digressing. I'm sorry. I was crossing Flinders street to go outside like where that Elizabeth street junction is to go towards Flinders street and then walk back with the crowd whilst photographing them side on. So they were walking directly into, towards Elizabeth street and they had beautiful shadows and light on them now coming out of a very dark shadow. And I thought if anything I was going to fall over there but I didn't because I was sort of sidestepping as I walked. And then I turned around and headed for the footpath because the, the man was flashing red and I looked up and there was a Sony shooter. I felt sorry for him so I gave him a smile and a thumbs up. I took his photo actually and I gave him a smile and a thumbs up and I said, yeah, poor you.
And then I tripped.
So I was acting uber cool. I was like connecting, I was vibing.
It was like an influencer style man standing there with a camera, with a Sony camera. And I tripped and I went down pretty fast and hard. I had my lucky strap slim 30 camera strap around my neck sort of over my shoulder and I had, it had my camera in my right hand and I went down and I landed on both my knees and my left wrist pretty hard.
But my camera stayed in the air the whole time.
[01:29:18] Speaker A: Yes.
Like when you fall into a pool holding a beer or a camera or. No.
[01:29:28] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, it's just like that. Yeah, so, so yeah, so I, I, I fell and one of my earpods popped out. I was in the middle of a very good new Florence and the Machine album. I highly recommend it.
And, and that went bouncing across the footpath and then these two guys came up and went, are you okay, brother?
And they each scooped up an arm under like each scooped up an arm and lifted, hoisted me up into the air and sort of checked that I was okay. And one of them went and got my earbud and, and they were really sweet. They went, you sure you're okay? You want to, you know, sit down? I'm like, no, I'm cool. Thanks guys. A bit embarrassed but I'm fine, really.
Because at that stage things weren't hurting and I, you know, shook both their hands and said thank you. And because that was really lovely, a lot of people would just walk past that sort of thing and not offer to help someone and hold crusty old street photographer falling over in the street. Some would probably go, ha.
Deserved it.
[01:30:26] Speaker A: Fujifilm shooter can't even focus on where he's walking.
[01:30:30] Speaker B: But I think what. I think the worst thing to come out of that experience was the fact that the Sony shooter felt sorry for me.
I can't, I can't. I can't live that down.
I am fine. Thank you so much, guys in the chat, sending me wishes I was fine. It was more embarrassing than anything I did. I did hurt my legs and my wrist quite a bit and I jarred my neck. And as you all know, I have a very, very touchy, fragile neck. So. But, yeah, I'm fine. And. And to be fair, I went on shooting for three more hours after the fall.
[01:30:58] Speaker A: Did you really?
[01:30:59] Speaker B: Yeah, yep. Kept powering. The light was just calling. It was so beautiful. It was such a beautiful morning and I managed to capture some shots that I'm really, really happy with and there's a lot of good energy in the city.
But, yes, I'm. I'm glad. The camera would have been so upset at my brand new camera. Imagine, I couldn't tell anyone if it happened because I had a lucky strap on. That would be terrible promotion.
[01:31:24] Speaker A: No, but it's quite the opposite. You got a brand new lucky strap last week and it literally saved both the life of your camera and your life.
[01:31:32] Speaker B: So that, folks, is a brilliant segue to remind everybody that the sponsor of today's show is Lucky straps. Head to Luckystraps.com use code Greg. I fell over. And you'll receive a sweet, sweet discount.
Your lucky straps.
It doesn't exist.
[01:31:47] Speaker A: You can, you can type the. I fell over. Just in your heart.
[01:31:50] Speaker B: Yeah, do it in your heart.
Go on, buy a strap for Greggy.
He clearly, clearly needs help. Need some sort of mobility skills.
[01:31:58] Speaker A: I was going to say, we'll get him a walking frame if we, if we get 20 sales with code Greg, we'll get him a walking frame.
[01:32:05] Speaker B: But it is, it is a bit of a wake up call because I remember thinking, oh, hearing from Mum and Dad, oh, your nan's fallen over in the supermarket this time. Nan used to fall over all the time. And I thought, oh, that must just be old people. And here I am having a tumble and, you know, I'm in my 50s now, and it just. It just kind of. It just made that little leap to. You're getting old.
[01:32:30] Speaker A: But, you know, it might have just been. I mean, I fall over sometimes.
No, Usually I'm on a bicycle or something stupid like that. But, you know, actually, that's not true. I've rolled my ankle getting out of the van, and I went down like a sack of potatoes.
[01:32:44] Speaker B: Oh, that's a high step, though.
[01:32:46] Speaker A: It was. It is a high step.
[01:32:47] Speaker B: It is a very high step out of that van.
[01:32:51] Speaker A: I jump out of there every time. And one time, there was a angled piece of concrete. I wasn't expecting to be there. And I just went down, down, down.
So it happens to all of us.
Was not. After a few. Thank you very much. It was in the morning.
[01:33:08] Speaker B: And fair comment here. I don't know where that Sony shooter. Was he on the grassy knoll?
[01:33:14] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:33:14] Speaker B: Did he fall or was he. Please.
Yeah.
[01:33:17] Speaker A: All right, we better. We better get into these images. But, yeah, so they were a great set. Let's just go quickly. Oh, no. What's happened here? We'll go quickly, go back through them. Hopefully this works. Yep.
[01:33:29] Speaker B: This shot isn't anything in particular, if you just go back to that one, but the Melbourne sign in the background. And it's just a very typical Melbourne street. Melbourne morning in the city. You got beautiful, punchy light.
You got lots of people in black.
[01:33:43] Speaker A: Yeah. Melbourne holding. Melbourne wearing black, holding coffees. It's Melbourne. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Great shots.
[01:33:53] Speaker B: Yeah. I was really happy with them. It was fun.
[01:33:58] Speaker A: All right, just quickly.
I'll quickly just show you through the print files I was looking at. Let's not keep this for too long because these are just a few random photos of mine that had colors that I was having trouble with.
But we won't drag on for too long. There we go.
So I printed tons of these. Not this one image, but various images.
This has reds in it.
Blue sky. But I was having particular problems with the green bag or greeny blue showing up as bright green.
And I can show you that in a later frame.
This particular image, which I shot.
Gosh, I can't even remember where.
New Zealand on the coast somewhere. West coast.
It had.
It was printing with a much more vibrant and, like, purpley sky.
[01:34:59] Speaker B: Almost like a hdr.
[01:35:01] Speaker A: Yeah. Like, you won't be able to see it, obviously, because the different lighting and, yeah, the exposure is all off and whatnot, but it's like you kind of see it on that angle. But it was like. It was all. I Was like, it didn't look that Sun City when I took this photo. It actually looks better, but not right.
And then. Yeah, I was just picking sort of some random shots. This one had particularly a lot of trouble with the blues.
Yeah. New Zealand's beautiful, isn't it?
[01:35:30] Speaker B: That's crazy.
[01:35:32] Speaker A: Same with this one. Really sort of interesting difference between the blues and the greens in the world water.
This one. This one was pretty close to fine in the print. Didn't have any troubling parts, but it sort of got greens in the blacks. And I just wanted to see what would happen there.
And then the wanaka tree wanted to see what would happen with oranges blues.
[01:35:56] Speaker B: I don't think I've seen that shot.
[01:35:57] Speaker A: Haven't you?
[01:35:58] Speaker B: I don't think. I don't think you've shown it before.
[01:36:01] Speaker A: That's my shot. Yeah.
[01:36:03] Speaker B: Well done.
[01:36:05] Speaker A: Frost on the logs here. And people had been walking out to the island, obviously, just because they just couldn't help themselves and wanted to touch the tree because the water was a bit low.
And then after checking on various monitors and stuff like that, I was trying to explain to someone what the differences were. And the only way that I could think to do it was to put the photos on my phone because they were like, Is your monitor calibrated? I'm like, I'm using multiple monitors. They're calibrated.
[01:36:35] Speaker D: Yeah.
[01:36:35] Speaker A: Even my phone shows the colors that I'm having troubles with as accurate. So then I took a photo of my phone next to the print so you could see, like. I know it's a bigger difference in the room. It's hard to explain, but see how it's like, more green than blue?
[01:36:57] Speaker B: And then.
[01:36:58] Speaker A: Same with this one.
Like, quite a difference.
See how the. The water went green?
[01:37:09] Speaker B: Yeah.
And you sure it's not an ink color issue? Like, the actual ink isn't.
[01:37:15] Speaker A: Nope. Because so what I did was. And then this one. It's hard to see. Hang on. I might have gone in here. This was one that was really troubling me. See the. The backpack on the right is blue. Yeah. And the backpack on the left is green.
[01:37:32] Speaker B: And all the. There's a lot of, like. What are they called? Is it fringing around like. Oh, no, that's in the snow. They're all green.
[01:37:38] Speaker A: That's the phone screen. Don't worry about that. This is really just. Yeah, this was just for color.
[01:37:42] Speaker B: Yeah. Okay.
[01:37:43] Speaker A: So don't worry about that.
And. Yes, everyone.
And then this. This one, which was more subtle in this, but you could. Yeah. You could just see it just had more sort of oranges and pinks and stuff going on in the sky. Anyway, long story short, I was able to.
So I was printing straight out of the Lightroom print module. But yes, with the correct paper profiles and all that kind of stuff.
And yes, I told the printer not to use its own corrections.
Hang on, good question here. Hey, Justin, regarding printing issues. Is it a Canon printer? And if so, if so, what app are you printing from exactly? So it is a canon Printer Pro 1100. I was printing directly out of Lightroom, the same I used to with my Epson 3880, with what I thought was a calibrated workflow. But I was like, have I forgotten something? What's happening? Paper profile. I've got everything kind of set. But then I printed the same files direct from Canon's professional print and layout app, which is literally just an app. So you have to. It's double handling. You've got to export the JPEG out of Lightroom and then drop it into this print and layout app and then print it.
But they came out very, very close.
So anyway, that's my story so far. The saga will continue.
[01:39:12] Speaker B: Frustrating though, isn't it? What is it with printers? I'm sure that there's just someone out there who makes printer software and they just like to mess with us because it doesn't matter what printer you're setting up. Home office photography printer, there's always some sort of conflict.
[01:39:27] Speaker A: It's always a problem.
Anyway, now that I've got this Canon print paper, I'll do a little bit more testing. I'll see if I can get it to work through Lightroom using the Canon paper and see if I can sort of start to remove some potential issues. Greg Carrick Fu. It's your camera. Try a Fuji. No, it's not.
Yeah. And LTK says are using the Canon Pro Print app. Yeah, that's. So that's what I'm using now. So I've basically, I found a solve. But I really liked printing from Lightroom. It was fast. You didn't have to export and then go through another process. Like, it's just a pain.
Yeah. I'll see if there's a plugin maybe for Lightroom with Canon software or something. But you shouldn't need that. Like, it's got the ICC profiles in it. It's all software proofed. I don't understand what's going wrong.
Aha. It's a Lightroom issue. I had exactly the same problem with Black and White. You have to print from the Canon app. And see, that's the other thing I was. I was having issues with black and white being weird. Just doing weird stuff, not looking the way that I. They didn't have the right amount of contrast and the blacks were odd.
Lucinda's been using Photoshop and it's worked fine with my Canon.
[01:40:41] Speaker B: Popped up.
[01:40:43] Speaker A: Okay. Apparently it's a known issue. Gosh, no one told me that before I bought the printer. Yeah, maybe it's a Lightroom issue, not a Canon issue, but anyway. Okay, let's get into your photos because it's getting late.
[01:40:58] Speaker B: Who we got?
[01:40:59] Speaker A: Let's start in alphabetical order with Andrew Connor.
[01:41:05] Speaker B: I mean, while.
[01:41:05] Speaker A: I'll leave that one up while I bring up some emails. I'm going to try and bring up people's emails while we go.
[01:41:10] Speaker B: Yeah. Okay.
[01:41:12] Speaker A: A couple more from me. These are from New Zealand trip in 2020, just before the C word hit.
Don't call them that.
The last is my favorite.
More as it was. Right place, right time.
That'll actually be the next image I pull up.
[01:41:32] Speaker B: Okay.
This is lovely.
[01:41:35] Speaker A: This one.
[01:41:37] Speaker B: What?
[01:41:37] Speaker A: I left a glacier area area early one morning to go to Wanaka, which was a mistake, as driving through the mountains in the dark rain and fog, I lost my nerve early, pulled over into a random driveway on country road and waited until it was light. And then when the light came, I found myself in the perfect spot for the sun to hit the mountains with snow and ice.
How good.
Look at that.
[01:42:04] Speaker B: Providence. Isn't that the word for it? Providence?
Yep.
[01:42:11] Speaker A: Everyone.
Yeah. Nice.
Wowzer. Stunning. Oh, that's nice. Yeah, everyone's loving it. It's a beautiful shot.
Yeah. Right place, right time. Great photo.
All of the above.
Better than the tree. Exactly.
Yeah. Better than. There's no way to. No other way to explain. It's better than the tree. Unforgettable moment. Nice catch.
Champion shot.
Yep.
[01:42:42] Speaker B: Okay, very good.
[01:42:44] Speaker A: And then finally.
Hang on. What else? We got one more here. Split Apple rock. Just a.
[01:42:53] Speaker B: Cool. Oh, I've never seen that feature.
[01:42:56] Speaker A: Feature.
And I like to think the bird managed this.
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Where am I? I can't even read. Lucky, lucky timing.
And Diamond Lake is the other picture.
You can take a bad photo in New Zealand. When? Again in 23. Can't wait to go back again. Yeah, exactly.
Epic shots. But yeah, this one's a. That's a banger.
[01:43:21] Speaker B: Yeah, that's very cool. And I love the story and experience behind it. It would look great printed.
[01:43:28] Speaker A: It would look Great. Printed.
[01:43:30] Speaker B: Only we had a printer.
[01:43:31] Speaker A: If only I've got one.
Who we got up next? We have, because we're going in alphabetical order. The one, the only, Bruce Moyle.
[01:43:44] Speaker B: Hey.
[01:43:44] Speaker A: Hey.
From Saturday shoot before my workshop, keeping the more MA rated ones away from the socials and banhammers.
Wow.
[01:44:01] Speaker B: I love the shapes.
[01:44:02] Speaker A: I need to make this bigger so that. I don't know why it keeps doing that every time I open it. That's better.
[01:44:09] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:44:09] Speaker A: That is beautiful. You can't also send the red one.
[01:44:13] Speaker B: With the same model?
[01:44:14] Speaker A: Yes, well, I'm about to show you the next one.
Tell me if it is or not. But it is beautiful. I don't know what the texture is and stuff, but it's.
Wow.
[01:44:27] Speaker B: Oh, I haven't seen that one.
[01:44:30] Speaker A: Oh, gosh, Bruce, I don't know how you do this. I guess I need to get to one of your workshops.
Lots of charcoal is the texture.
Yeah. Epic work.
[01:44:45] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:44:51] Speaker A: Yeah. So cool.
Oh, no, he didn't send the red one. Sorry.
[01:44:55] Speaker B: No, the red one's on his socials, if anyone hasn't checked it out.
Is it at. At Beamworld Art? Pretty sure, yeah. There's one from the same model that was. And the. The image is predominantly red. You'll know it when you see it. It'll just knock your socks off.
Very cool.
[01:45:15] Speaker A: Very cool.
Now we're going in alphabetical order. Now this one is going to be tricky.
Christine sent me through 23 images and said, I don't like culling.
So.
[01:45:37] Speaker B: So you've got to do it.
[01:45:39] Speaker A: Well, I was going to pick some and then I was like, I don't know, I picked some. I changed my mind a couple times, and then I decided, you know what, let's have a quick look through them.
And then. And then let's pick like three or four that we would be like, you know, say if you were entering a comp or something like that. They're the ones. And it's not. Not to say some aren't good or are good or whatever, but just the ones that tick, like.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Just. Just culling.
All right, let me just get this now. And they've all got stories. I've got stories from. From all of them behind them. But we'll. We'll just check some of the stories from the ones that we decide.
[01:46:18] Speaker B: Yeah, okay. That's a good idea.
[01:46:19] Speaker A: Yeah. I'm gonna go through them. I'm gonna go through them fast.
And then we're gonna pick like two or three between us.
[01:46:25] Speaker B: No blinking.
[01:46:26] Speaker A: We'll agree. All right, we're watching. Look at that. I like that one. Straight off the bat. Yeah.
Beautiful shot.
Just quickly, though. These first few are the Glen Finnan Viaduct.
And then in Scotland at Aileen Donnan. This one is right in the morning. It's a beautiful light. There's a couple of shots there already that are sort of similar, but both good.
Yep. And then.
[01:47:01] Speaker B: Oh, wow.
[01:47:02] Speaker A: New location. Gosh, Greg's gonna have trouble here.
Want to keep moving fast.
[01:47:12] Speaker B: Oh, that's so cool.
[01:47:14] Speaker A: The kelpies in Felkirk.
[01:47:17] Speaker B: They're not kelpies. They're horses.
[01:47:19] Speaker A: Just a quick line from this. Holy balls. Those ponies have got some size.
Morning light for the wind.
[01:47:28] Speaker B: Oh.
[01:47:31] Speaker A: What'S that? I love the bridge. That needs no introduction, but it's sometimes called London Bridge. It's the Tower Bridge.
Back to Scotland.
Experimenting with some noise. It's black and white. Some rays shining through the trees.
[01:47:52] Speaker B: Mm.
[01:47:54] Speaker A: So tricky to pick already.
Yeah, tricky to pick.
Gonna keep moving. Beautiful landscape, Winding road.
What number are we? 10.
Back to Aileen Donnan, but it's sunset.
And then Isle of Sky.
I attempted an Ansel Adams inspired picture, but not even close.
I mean, I like it.
[01:48:25] Speaker B: I like it too.
[01:48:28] Speaker A: And then we kinda.
We kind of move into some cars because Christine is a car photographer.
[01:48:39] Speaker B: Oh, I like that color. That looks good.
[01:48:41] Speaker A: Oh, wow. What? You could see yourself in this car.
[01:48:44] Speaker B: No, no, no, no. I have no interest in cars. It's just a beautiful color.
That's really sweet.
[01:48:52] Speaker A: Gonna keep moving because we're gonna cull them down.
[01:48:58] Speaker B: I do like that.
[01:48:59] Speaker A: Oh, that blue car is Christine's car.
Wow.
[01:49:04] Speaker B: What is that? Just your daily driver.
[01:49:09] Speaker A: Drive that to photography.
Another shot. So this is another shot of the same location, but this one is.
It just says, oh, look, another alien.
Yeah. I mean, it's a beautiful location. You could probably wander around there and shoot there for a week.
Oh, I do like that one street photo for Greg. Yeah.
The color, I mean.
[01:49:35] Speaker B: My Lord.
[01:49:36] Speaker A: Rolling shot.
More awesome cars and then some more cars to finish off. A couple action shots.
[01:49:49] Speaker B: That's really cool.
[01:49:51] Speaker A: Oh, wow.
And another action shot. Okay, what do you reckon?
Okay, so you go, you go.
[01:50:02] Speaker B: Let's go back to the start and we'll just quickly. I'll just tell you which ones.
[01:50:05] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:50:08] Speaker B: No, that's garbage. Keep going.
I'm joking. I'm joking. I'm joking.
[01:50:13] Speaker A: That was one that was on my short list. I just. I really like the fog colors.
[01:50:17] Speaker B: I think it was great.
[01:50:18] Speaker A: Printed on matte paper, center composition, but with a Little bit going on on the right hand side. It was on my short list.
[01:50:27] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:50:28] Speaker A: Oh, Lucinda kept score. I love this one. Nine, 18.
I love that.
Okay, so one was on list in this list.
[01:50:35] Speaker B: All right, so one's this one.
[01:50:37] Speaker A: Yep.
[01:50:39] Speaker B: No, no, this.
[01:50:46] Speaker A: Yep.
[01:50:47] Speaker B: Four. Yeah.
[01:50:48] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:50:48] Speaker B: I prefer it with the.
The landscape feeding into it and the.
[01:50:53] Speaker A: Reflection, the wider shot leading into it. And you've got a lot of lines. All the lines are leading into that. That center of the frame. Fairly dark foreground, but it kind of works.
Center composition, but it kind of works. Yeah, it does. It's an interesting one.
[01:51:08] Speaker B: Yeah, I like that.
No, no, this.
[01:51:14] Speaker A: This one.
[01:51:15] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:51:16] Speaker A: The bridge.
[01:51:17] Speaker B: Yeah, like the bridge.
[01:51:18] Speaker A: I wasn't sure. It's. It's. Yeah, I wasn't sure about this one. I didn't know if it quite made my list of a, you know, three max. Four shots.
[01:51:30] Speaker B: Yeah, four. I believe you were asking me. So let's move along.
[01:51:34] Speaker A: We're working on this together. It's a team effort.
[01:51:36] Speaker B: Oh, I didn't read the script.
[01:51:38] Speaker A: Sorry.
[01:51:38] Speaker B: I didn't read the show notes.
[01:51:40] Speaker A: That's because I made this up on the spot.
[01:51:41] Speaker B: You did.
I do like the black and white. It's beautiful. Keep moving.
Yeah, I do see your problem, Christine.
No, that's. That's like AI Slop. Keep going.
[01:51:58] Speaker A: This one's growing on me. This one's grown on me.
[01:52:00] Speaker B: I like the one that's where the castle's a bit more golden hour.
[01:52:04] Speaker A: I just want to go back. So loose. The one that you called AI Slop. That's the one Lucinda's got on her list of three. 1, 9, 18. This is nine.
Yeah. This one's grown on me. Of. Of the castles, I'm not sure, but I think the final one is the one for that, which is black and white, too.
What about this one? 11?
[01:52:27] Speaker B: I do like it, but it's not in my top three.
[01:52:30] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:52:32] Speaker B: I've got to have a car one, too.
[01:52:35] Speaker A: You don't have to have anything. You just need to pick. Pick three, and you've already picked one or two.
[01:52:43] Speaker B: Not come in.
I do like this.
If I.
If I had a classic car or a, you know, hot rod or whatever.
[01:52:54] Speaker A: It'D be that one.
[01:52:54] Speaker B: This one I like this one.
[01:52:56] Speaker A: Yeah. I think this photo's on my list.
[01:52:58] Speaker B: Yeah. So I think that's beautiful.
But then that's so good, too. I like the orange.
Oh, I see the problem, Christine. You're just too good. No matter what you point the thing at, it's working out that rolling Shot's great too. They're all good.
[01:53:16] Speaker A: All right, so I'm going to quickly do. Mine is the rolling shot.
For me, it would be the rolling shot. So number 1917 for the one shot of Aileen. So then we've got a car and we've got an alien shot. I don't know if I know if I'm pronouncing that right. And then for something different or something, what else would I put in?
Yeah, maybe this one. That would be this one or number one.
But yeah, if I was gonna. Maybe if I was gonna quickly be like, oh, here's a bit of variety of what I can do. Maybe this.
And then.
This beautiful shot. I think I like that it shows the profile of the landscape framing the castle.
[01:54:10] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:54:11] Speaker A: With the bridge.
[01:54:12] Speaker B: You don't like things.
[01:54:13] Speaker A: I think it's. I just think it's show. If you're trying to show that whole scene in one. One photo, it does a really good job of it.
[01:54:19] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:54:19] Speaker A: And then if you're going to take photos of cars, I mean, if you can take a photo of it rolling.
[01:54:24] Speaker B: Then yeah, it's a fair point.
[01:54:27] Speaker A: So I'm happy with that.
[01:54:28] Speaker B: But I mean, they're all.
It's subjective, but they're also compelling. Like every shot makes you stop.
[01:54:36] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:54:37] Speaker B: You know, and I think that that's the compelling part of photography when it makes you stop and go, oh, for whatever reason, subject, composition, lighting, color, you know.
[01:54:48] Speaker A: Yeah.
Okay.
[01:54:53] Speaker B: That rolling one is on the COVID of Cruis' N magazine.
[01:54:57] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, yeah. Model A coupe on the COVID of Cruisin magazine last month.
This was kind of a big deal. My goal when I started shooting cars was to nail the COVID and have a really good mates car do. That made it even sweeter. It's only been a few years behind the camera. I was such a late bloomer to the photography world. I really have a great network of people around me, which is incredible.
Well done. Yeah, Very good work.
[01:55:20] Speaker B: And I think Lucinda made a comment a little earlier on saying you need to bring these cars to the brightfest of photography. You could do like a whole. You would. Yeah. You would smash it. Get Dennis to light paint.
[01:55:31] Speaker A: I was gonna say. And guess. Guess who would be there.
[01:55:34] Speaker B: Let's guess who it is.
[01:55:35] Speaker A: Just pop out of the corner.
Just making magic. Yeah.
[01:55:40] Speaker B: Yep.
[01:55:41] Speaker A: All right. We better keep moving because that took longer than I thought. That was a little bit out of nowhere. If you'd like us to cull your photos, please don't do that. No, it was fun doing it. Was fun doing that for you, Christine. But ideally, please send us, I don't know, three, four, five photos. Unless it's some sort of set or something, like a storytelling series. I did actually enjoy that. And I could have just picked a couple, but I didn't because I thought that would be fun.
[01:56:06] Speaker B: It was cool. Great shots. Really, really cool.
[01:56:10] Speaker A: All right, some images coming up.
[01:56:20] Speaker B: Hey.
[01:56:24] Speaker A: From David Leporati says, I thought you might like some more RAAF aircraft images shot on film.
Always, always, always, always, always.
Image number one, RAAF 75 Squadron Mirages over Penang Island, Malaysia, 1986. Shot on Mamiya M645 with power winder grip and 80 mil f 2.8 standard lens while flying in a Learjet, of course.
Okay.
I wish I had a caption like that for just one of my photos.
[01:57:03] Speaker B: Other than photograph from my Mercedes Sprinter van.
[01:57:06] Speaker A: Yeah.
Shot on auto with Canon R6 Mark III.
What Were your settings?
[01:57:15] Speaker B: A plus.
[01:57:17] Speaker A: All right. Image number two. Mirages and Learjet 1986, shot by RAAF pilot flying another Mirage with us.
That's cool. So that's what you were in like a rich person's plane.
[01:57:33] Speaker B: Yeah. It's like a scene from a Bond film or something.
[01:57:35] Speaker A: It is.
[01:57:36] Speaker B: You know, gets either escorted or.
[01:57:40] Speaker A: Yeah. Threatening hostage or something.
[01:57:42] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[01:57:43] Speaker A: That's amazing.
[01:57:44] Speaker B: Oh, we dream.
[01:57:47] Speaker A: Image number three, RAAF 77 Squadron F18s over Port Stevens area, North Newcastle, 1987. Shot on Mamiya M645 with power winder grip, 80mm f 2.8 standard lens whilst flying in an F18 F. A18. Sorry.
[01:58:06] Speaker B: That's a beautiful shot.
[01:58:07] Speaker A: That is a beautiful shot.
[01:58:08] Speaker B: Look how sharp it is.
[01:58:09] Speaker A: None of the. None of the aircraft are crossing into each other in the composition. Everything's like. It's perfectly framed.
[01:58:17] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:58:18] Speaker A: Love it.
[01:58:19] Speaker B: And the. And the angle of whatever's going on on the ground, like there's. It's all leading kind of along lines.
[01:58:25] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:58:26] Speaker B: Beautiful.
[01:58:27] Speaker A: Yeah, very cool.
Image number four, RAAF 77 Squadron F18s over Port Stevens area, North Newcastle, 1987. Shot on Mamiya MC 645 with power winder grip and 80 mil f 2.8 standard lens whilst flying in an F18. I probably should have just.
I should have just said the same as the previous one. Sorry.
[01:58:45] Speaker B: It's okay.
[01:58:46] Speaker A: It's my bad.
Well, that's true, Tony. I did photograph an off road race from a helicopter. Okay. I could do. It's not as cool as this. It wasn't on film, but yeah, I do. I do have a caption like that. I should try and find some of those photos.
[01:59:00] Speaker B: That's cute. I think that's really cute.
Yeah. Thanks, Tony.
[01:59:04] Speaker A: Thanks.
This is a beautiful show as well.
Yeah, yeah. Epic.
Gosh, so much fun. And then a proof sheet squadron over Port Stevens, North Newcastle in 1987, all shot on as above.
Oh, that's awesome. Love the proof sheets.
[01:59:27] Speaker B: Yeah.
Thank you so much for sending that through.
[01:59:31] Speaker A: That's right, the next B fob. An aerial workshop in jets.
[01:59:35] Speaker B: Yeah, there we go.
[01:59:39] Speaker A: With Dennis light painting, hanging on a tow rope behind one of them.
[01:59:46] Speaker B: With.
[01:59:47] Speaker A: His skin pushed back. Yeah, yeah.
[01:59:48] Speaker B: I like when you see those, those skydivers and their skins all kind of waving and. Yeah, that'd be good.
[01:59:56] Speaker A: Epic. Well, David, you've somehow outdone yourself, which I didn't even think was possible.
[02:00:01] Speaker B: Yeah, well played.
[02:00:02] Speaker A: Epic shots.
[02:00:03] Speaker B: Well played.
[02:00:04] Speaker A: Well played indeed.
And who do we have next?
If my Alphabet knows what it's doing.
[02:00:15] Speaker B: Bruce says, finally something better than the big bad bus trip.
Something bigger than the big bad bus.
[02:00:23] Speaker A: The really, really bad jet trip.
[02:00:26] Speaker B: Blink and you'll miss it.
[02:00:33] Speaker A: Hang on. Okay, now, speaking of Dennis Smith, this email subject line was something a little different.
Two portraits with a from 2013 with a 5D Mark III with a 24 mil 1.4. Best Canon lens ever made. I wonder if it was the version one or the version two, because I had the version two and it was freaking great.
Yeah, because you could do that. You could do that and just nail it. And it just. Just had this intimate up close feel about it, but yeah.
[02:01:13] Speaker B: Oh, it's like a world vision ad.
Such a beautiful photo.
[02:01:16] Speaker A: Yeah, it is, isn't it? Yeah, yeah.
[02:01:21] Speaker B: The eyes just pull you in.
[02:01:24] Speaker A: The other two shots were with a Q3.
Oh, wow.
[02:01:34] Speaker B: Oh, that's just magic.
[02:01:38] Speaker A: Take me with you, Dennis, next time you go to India. Please. Yeah, please, please, please.
Okay. Epic work, Dennis. Thank you for sending those in. Something a little bit different. Spice things up a little bit this week.
Now moving on to Bendigo local Felicity Johnson.
[02:02:01] Speaker B: Hey, hey.
[02:02:05] Speaker A: See what she's got for a caption, if there's anything.
Where is it? Where is it?
There it is.
Pickies from my yard. Are these all taken at your house?
Insane, it says.
Hello. Thanks for the lovely comments. Cheers. Flick from the Nong.
Look at these.
[02:02:36] Speaker B: Yeah, look at those backgrounds. They're just obliterated.
[02:02:40] Speaker A: I love it.
[02:02:41] Speaker B: Yeah.
[02:02:43] Speaker A: And a bit of macro.
[02:02:44] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, yes, she does some great macro.
[02:02:47] Speaker A: Look at that composition. I love that.
[02:02:49] Speaker B: Yeah.
[02:02:50] Speaker A: Symmetry, but with the stepping of the leaf like it's.
[02:02:53] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, Very Very well done.
Got quite the eye there.
[02:03:01] Speaker A: Look at this. It's like they're all looking at what the other one's looking at. Yeah, you know, like ones in the bot or, you know, like the. Yeah, that's funny.
Gosh, that's beautiful.
[02:03:13] Speaker B: Where's the background gone?
[02:03:17] Speaker A: Yeah, and that too. Look at that.
[02:03:19] Speaker B: Yeah.
[02:03:27] Speaker A: Proximate masked bees.
Z 805mil Cygnus tech diffuser. Males roosting in my she oak.
[02:03:37] Speaker B: That's something you don't hear every day.
[02:03:39] Speaker A: Nope.
I've never had a caption like that either.
[02:03:43] Speaker B: Yeah, I love.
[02:03:48] Speaker A: Hey, Matthew Garberg's in the chat.
[02:03:50] Speaker B: Hey, mate.
[02:03:52] Speaker A: He's getting some rolling tips from Christine.
Lovely macro.
Lovely everything. Felicity.
[02:04:03] Speaker B: Yeah, well done.
[02:04:04] Speaker A: Great work.
[02:04:06] Speaker B: All right.
[02:04:07] Speaker A: Moving.
Masterful.
Moving along.
[02:04:14] Speaker B: I think Felicity should be running workshops next year.
[02:04:16] Speaker A: Yeah, maybe.
Greg Carrick.
All taken with my Fujifilm XE4 and 7 artisan 18mil f 6.3 pancake lens across in camera, then grain and vignette added in snapseed.
The ship is the Enterprise and was at Mornington over the weekend. And no, I didn't yell, beam me up, Scotty.
You probably should have.
[02:04:44] Speaker B: Yeah, why not?
I love the contrast.
[02:04:49] Speaker A: Yeah, you've gone hard. I like it.
[02:04:51] Speaker B: Yeah, just.
And the one to one ratio.
Magic.
Pure magic. Crackers.
[02:05:00] Speaker A: Looks like another century does, doesn't it?
[02:05:03] Speaker B: Yeah, it's really got that.
[02:05:07] Speaker A: Yep.
[02:05:07] Speaker B: That oldie worldy vibe to it.
[02:05:10] Speaker A: Just pushed it right into a completely different look.
[02:05:14] Speaker B: Yeah, they look like images out of a historical text.
[02:05:18] Speaker A: Yeah.
[02:05:19] Speaker B: Not just because of the subject, just because of the compositions and the framing and the use of contrast. Really, really great.
[02:05:34] Speaker A: All right, up next, we have something a little bit different from John Pickett that says, hey, guys, this is a photo taken by my daughter. She's 9, at a photo walk yesterday at Flagstaff Gardens. She did the editing herself, too.
Proud dad moment.
[02:05:55] Speaker B: So cool.
[02:05:57] Speaker A: I've stolen the photo and I'm calling it mine.
[02:06:01] Speaker B: Justin, could you please frame it? I want to sell it.
[02:06:03] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm submitting it.
Yeah, no Proud dad moment. Shot with 200D and Canon 18 to 135 lens.
[02:06:14] Speaker B: Nice.
[02:06:15] Speaker A: That's cool.
[02:06:16] Speaker B: That's very cool.
[02:06:17] Speaker A: Yeah. Budding photographer in the making and supportive dad.
[02:06:22] Speaker B: Well done.
[02:06:23] Speaker A: Yeah, well done.
[02:06:25] Speaker B: Very cool.
[02:06:26] Speaker A: Yeah, I love it. That's a great photo. I'm going to submit it.
That's awesome.
Yeah, Very, very cool. We'll follow that story.
Yeah, she's a beef op instructor.
[02:06:41] Speaker B: Yeah.
[02:06:42] Speaker A: All right, up next, LTK Liam K.
Oh, I like this.
Look at the reflection.
[02:06:52] Speaker B: Yeah.
[02:06:54] Speaker A: No subject, no caption.
[02:06:55] Speaker B: Pardon the punishment.
[02:06:56] Speaker A: The. The. It speaks for itself.
[02:06:58] Speaker B: Yeah.
[02:07:00] Speaker A: Yeah, I love it.
[02:07:01] Speaker B: Yep.
[02:07:03] Speaker A: Lines, good amount of motion. Super tack. Sharp reflection.
Reflection sharp.
[02:07:12] Speaker B: Good tonal values, too, because it's a fairly black. Like, it's a very muted palette.
[02:07:17] Speaker A: Yep. It's like. It's. Yeah, it's like heading towards black and white, but it's got that sort of cinema blue through. Yeah, yeah.
Love it.
[02:07:29] Speaker B: Very cool.
[02:07:30] Speaker A: Yeah, it's one of my favorites. One of my favorites from the night, for sure.
Up next, our very own Lucinda Goodwin.
A few snaps from the Queenscliff Music Festival over the weekend. I'm still madly editing.
[02:07:53] Speaker B: Love it.
Seagulls.
They eating chips? No.
[02:07:58] Speaker A: Well, isn't that what seagulls do?
[02:08:00] Speaker B: Yeah, I know, but who brought chips for the sea? I don't understand what's happening.
It's like a fever dream I once had.
I just love. Oh, it's the silent disco.
[02:08:12] Speaker A: We know that guy. Hey, I know you. He's the guy.
[02:08:17] Speaker B: Oh, that's so cool. Look at the kids. They're into it. I love that.
Not a screen insight.
[02:08:23] Speaker A: I don't know. One of them's like, really? Are we doing this? Yeah, just quickly, just to cap off from LTK's drifting photo. It says, went to a drift event and it decided to rain. Okay. So it wasn't a. Wasn't like a. You guys wet the corner to make this happen. It was just. That was just what was happening because. Yeah. Does look like a movie still.
[02:08:42] Speaker B: And wouldn't you want it to rain for a drifting shoot?
[02:08:45] Speaker A: Tokyo drift vibes. Yeah, I guess. Then you don't get the smoke.
[02:08:49] Speaker B: Yeah, true.
[02:08:50] Speaker A: But you get water spray, so I guess Epic skids. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Okay. Oh, so Lucinda says they purposely harass anyone that has chips because they're seagulls. That's funny.
[02:09:06] Speaker B: Or do they use the chips to harass people?
[02:09:10] Speaker A: No, I think they're. They're harassing people that have just got their chip. Chippies. Chip. Chippies.
[02:09:18] Speaker B: That's great.
[02:09:21] Speaker A: Looking at live music shots. Yeah.
She knows how to do it.
[02:09:25] Speaker B: Yeah.
[02:09:26] Speaker A: Get the moments.
[02:09:27] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, yeah.
Oh, that's great.
What a brilliant shot.
[02:09:41] Speaker A: Yeah.
[02:09:41] Speaker B: Look at the color in the tent.
[02:09:43] Speaker A: Hang on. Is that the drummer? That's not just like. Is that the drummer or is that someone from the crowd?
Because everyone's filming that person and he's holding drumsticks.
[02:09:58] Speaker B: That's. That's a great shot.
[02:10:04] Speaker A: Yeah. Epic work.
Yes, it is. The drummer. Yeah.
Awesome. That's very cool.
[02:10:12] Speaker B: Keyboard player.
[02:10:13] Speaker A: There's one missing.
There's one missing that didn't download, Lucinda. I don't know why your files sometimes just don't download.
I don't know if there's an easy way for me to make that happen.
[02:10:25] Speaker B: Cannon shooter.
[02:10:27] Speaker A: It's not that.
No, that doesn't work.
Damn it. I did this last time.
Cover me, Greg. I'm trying to fix something.
[02:10:38] Speaker B: Well, Lucinda pointed out that it's the keyboard player from the gig is on the bottom.
[02:10:46] Speaker A: Oh, that's cool.
[02:10:47] Speaker B: And the artist is on his shoulders. Is the artist the drummer? Where's the drummer? Lucinda, who's the drummer?
I just love the lighting and the tent and.
[02:11:01] Speaker A: And.
[02:11:01] Speaker B: Yeah. And the way that everyone is pivoted to this. This moment. It's the hands up. Oh, it's so cool. So well captured.
Got to be there.
Got to be ready.
Was this at a recent festival? If so, which festival is this at?
There's no drama. Oh, I know. I don't like the photo.
Band is called the Pierce Brothers.
Are they brothers? Are they the brothers? Are they both called Pierce?
See, you're not giving any context to the story. And I'm doing a terrible job of filibustering.
Yeah, I want to know which.
Thanks, mate. And Christine says I miss festivals. I've never been to a proper. Oh, no, I have. I've been to one music festival.
It was a heavy metal music festival at Calder Park. It wasn't really a festival. We didn't have festivals back then. It was more of a.
Yeah, more of a fever dream, to be fair.
What are you doing, Justin?
[02:12:04] Speaker A: Trying to find.
[02:12:05] Speaker B: How is this entertainment?
[02:12:07] Speaker A: Trying to find Paul's images. All right. You're doing the images next Monday. We'll see what happens.
[02:12:11] Speaker B: No, we will not be doing that.
[02:12:13] Speaker A: You will have no chance.
[02:12:15] Speaker B: No, we will not do that. That's not. That's not in my contract.
[02:12:20] Speaker A: This. This is Paul Carpenter. This is from the eastern tip of Oahu, which I've been lucky enough to visit a few times, thanks to work. Sunrises there are great and the ocean is wild. I had a favorite rock to stand on, which gave me an elevated position over the small inlet in the floor foreground. Yeah. That is an epic sunset.
[02:12:37] Speaker B: That's incredible.
[02:12:39] Speaker A: Great composition, too.
[02:12:40] Speaker B: Yeah.
[02:12:42] Speaker A: Yeah. My eyes. My eyes. Swirls around the frame.
Yeah.
Beautiful shot.
[02:12:51] Speaker B: Love it.
[02:12:52] Speaker A: We got the.
[02:12:53] Speaker B: Where did he say this was in? Oahu.
[02:12:55] Speaker A: Oahu.
Wahoo.
Up next, Philip Johnson.
The Philip Johnson.
See if. Has he got any.
[02:13:14] Speaker B: I love the tonal values in this. It's Just.
[02:13:17] Speaker A: It's a King Protea.
Yeah, it's.
[02:13:26] Speaker B: This is crazy.
[02:13:27] Speaker A: It's almost like it could be the mask of some, like a ceremonial mask or something.
[02:13:32] Speaker B: Yeah, you keep sort of searching for meaning and you just get lost in the. In the detail and the tonal values. It's really beautiful. Well done, Philip. I love this.
[02:13:40] Speaker A: Yeah.
[02:13:41] Speaker B: Love it a lot.
[02:13:43] Speaker A: Well, if you love that, check this next one out.
Oh, stop it.
[02:13:50] Speaker B: What?
[02:13:51] Speaker A: Rose Valley, Blue Mountains World Heritage Area. Captured. Captured from Govern's Leap.
That's a shot.
[02:14:03] Speaker B: That's impressive. That's very impressive.
Wonderful. Wonderful composition, Philip.
Well played, sir.
[02:14:15] Speaker A: Yeah. Epic.
What a. What a view that would have been.
[02:14:19] Speaker B: Yeah, well, I think Philip's from that area, so he sees that a lot.
[02:14:24] Speaker A: I was going to say it's still a nice view, just because.
[02:14:26] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. No, I'm sorry. Didn't mean to steal your thumbnail.
[02:14:29] Speaker A: Like, he's from there, so, you know.
[02:14:31] Speaker B: Yeah, that's nothing to him.
[02:14:32] Speaker A: Yeah, nothing.
[02:14:34] Speaker B: He sees that. Doing the dishes.
[02:14:38] Speaker A: And this has been a long show, so last but not least, Rick Nelson.
[02:14:44] Speaker B: Rick Nelson.
[02:14:45] Speaker A: Rick Nelson.
More beautiful sunrise or sunset light. Looks like sunrise. Let's see, two photos from this week with my new camera editions.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max. LOL.
[02:14:59] Speaker B: Oh, you got the max.
Oh, look at that.
[02:15:05] Speaker A: Colors.
[02:15:06] Speaker B: Yeah.
[02:15:10] Speaker A: Colors.
Epic.
[02:15:13] Speaker B: Yeah, very epic.
[02:15:17] Speaker A: So this is fun. Look at ltk saying, oh, sunset. I don't know why I thought it was sunrise.
Ltk saying, I'll have to send in some street photography next week. I wonder whether we should start doing some themes.
[02:15:30] Speaker B: Oh, that's an idea.
[02:15:31] Speaker A: You know, like, like, like we just do all street photography or whatever. Yeah, have a think about it. Not next week. Next week we'll just leave it open to whatever tickets you fancy. We'll have a think, whatever you feel like it. But. But I'm thinking them two weeks might be a bit of fun. Give people a reason to dig something particularly out. Or even better, I'd rather if you go out and shoot something for the week, would be epic. So we'll see.
We'll see.
Now, I have to ask, weekly challenges.
[02:16:00] Speaker B: Like that, are you going to print any of these or have you secretly.
Oh, I love it when you get up to mischief. You get this cheeky look on your face.
[02:16:12] Speaker A: I've already printed one of our images from tonight. Not one of mine, not one of yours, One of the listener images. Let's go and see what it was.
All right.
[02:16:24] Speaker B: I thought you were going to take us with you, but you're just leaving.
[02:16:36] Speaker A: Well, The colors have come out okay.
[02:16:43] Speaker B: Right.
[02:16:44] Speaker A: But the printer obviously had some trouble because it's got some black ink smudges on it. So the problem is.
[02:16:52] Speaker B: You're really winning at this game, aren't you? Oh, no.
Where's the smudge?
[02:16:59] Speaker A: You probably won't be able to see it because of the exposure. Oh, hang on. I'll be able to get it to you.
Hang on, hang on.
See there.
Wow, look at that. Crazy.
So what is that?
[02:17:14] Speaker B: What is that?
[02:17:15] Speaker A: I did switch paper types, but I didn't switch ink types.
I mean, the reds look like the red.
[02:17:22] Speaker B: Yeah.
[02:17:22] Speaker A: You know, it's punchy.
It's the correct stuff.
[02:17:28] Speaker B: But we've got the smudges.
[02:17:31] Speaker A: What do we get those smudges from? Canon. Canon? What are you doing to me?
Trying to advertise your products for free.
But overall, I'm pretty happy with the.
I'll have to have a closer look later.
I'm pretty happy with it.
I was going to post it to you, Christine, but you don't want. I'll have to cut. I'll have to cut the corner off with scissors.
[02:17:59] Speaker B: Yeah, let's Photoshop it.
[02:18:02] Speaker A: Oh, well, anyway.
[02:18:07] Speaker B: Oh, it's a shame.
[02:18:08] Speaker A: What a letdown.
Hey, printers aren't easy.
[02:18:14] Speaker B: Yeah, really.
[02:18:15] Speaker A: It's a UFO in the sky.
[02:18:17] Speaker B: You get sorted before the print party.
[02:18:20] Speaker A: I know. That's what I'm trying to do.
[02:18:21] Speaker B: I'm coming to Bendigo just for that. Not to see you or Jim or Yelena or anyone. I just want to print some images.
[02:18:27] Speaker A: This paper is very glossy, but it looks good for glossy paper.
More testing required.
Bruce Moyle says Tip X. I don't know what that means, but I agree.
[02:18:41] Speaker B: It's like liquid paper, you know, like a little brush thing and. You ever use that in school?
I need it. Did you use pens in school?
Yeah. Liquid paper? Yeah. Yeah.
[02:18:53] Speaker A: You want me to put liquid paper?
[02:18:55] Speaker B: Well, I think that's what Tip X.
[02:18:56] Speaker A: Is that what Tip X is?
[02:18:57] Speaker B: I think so. Is that right, Bruce?
[02:18:59] Speaker A: That'll look nice.
[02:19:04] Speaker B: Yeah.
[02:19:05] Speaker A: Windslide night? Yeah. Good question.
[02:19:07] Speaker B: Yeah. Sorry, Tony, I'm. Well, it was you. And to get my images printed, I want to. Well, I don't want to see you. I just want to ride in your racer, your racing sim. You can be there. You don't have to be there. It won't make any difference to me. But, yeah, the prints, that's. That's the most important part.
[02:19:23] Speaker A: Oh, dear. All right, let's wrap this thing up. I'm going to go to bed.
I did A triathlon yesterday. My legs are tired.
[02:19:31] Speaker B: You're an idiot.
[02:19:32] Speaker A: I know. We didn't even show you on the photo. Maybe we'll show him next week. I had to wear a full face helmet.
[02:19:36] Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
[02:19:37] Speaker A: I left my helmet at home. So I had to wear a full face downhill mountain bike helmet on a road ride for a triathlon. My first and only triathlon that I'll probably ever do.
[02:19:48] Speaker B: And he did it on an old school racer.
To be fair, the helmet left at home was one of the old orange stack hats. What was the company that made stack hats?
[02:19:58] Speaker A: Stack hat. Was it called stack it? Yeah, I'm pretty sure someone else.
[02:20:04] Speaker B: There was a bright orange one. I have one of them.
[02:20:07] Speaker A: Yeah, same.
All right, we better call it. I gotta go to bed.
[02:20:12] Speaker B: Yeah.
